passport vs. passport card

With the new rules requiring a passport to cross the border south dose anyone know if they are accepting the Passport Card or are they requiring a Passport Book?
Have friends with card but not the passport book.

Hello rbginc,

The passport card and the passport book work just fine when crossing south and getting the FMM documentation in order.

It is my understanding that if you travel S.O.B. with the passport card, no problems. If for some reason you need to fly back north, you need the book.

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

Now if they would just accept my SENTRI card southbound so I don't have to carry my passport book...

What AK said. Two years ago a friend tried to fly back from Loreto with just the card and they wouldn't let him on the plane - an abrupt education.

Passport cards are only for land and sea entry, from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean (so if you arrive via kayak from Polynesia, you need your passport book, sorry Thor Heyerdahl).
