Hikers missing in extreme heat, Sierra de Jurez. Rescue effort.

Apparently the hikers are in the vicinity of Rancho San Luis, which is approx. 6 miles NE of Laguna Hanson. The ranch is on the edge of the escarpment, above Canyon Guadalupe. I estimate temps over the weekend on the plateau at 95 F. - 100 F. and temperatures in the desert below 110+ F. Let's hope that all survive.

The first two sentences sounded like a human translator. Here's a cleaned up version of the later sentences for those puzzling over the meaning:

"The body was found in the desert after a ground search carried out by firefighters. Until now a youth has not been located, the last of the group that disappeared last Friday. The search continues with more than 50 members of various agencies."

I met Antonio of Antonio's ecotours in the Laguna de SI many years ago and he told us that he took a National Geographic class on desert survival. He said one only dies if they want to once you learn all the resources available.

RIP to the one who passed away and now we can only hope the youngster survives.
