A Punta Abreojos student gets 1st place!
Martha is a college scholarship student currently in her sophomore year.
Two weeks ago, she sent me a request for $1000 pesos for a project she was working on. She has an incredible sponsor who has always told her that he
has her back 100%. He sent the cash that same day and I deposited to her that same day.
She sent me an invite a week ago to her project presentation day in Santa Rosalia. So much going on that I did not have a chance to go, but wished
her the best of luck. In retrospect, her parents should have gone and they could not go due to lack of funds for gas from Abreojos to Santa Rosalia
and back. Next time, I will make every effort to make sure they are there for her important events!
She competed against 70 other teams and her team won! I am so proud of her. She called me right after the event to tell me!!
Is this cool or WHAT?!! Now, they will go on to the regional competition.
The project was to come up with a new product or device, market it, design a both, sell as much as possible. The team created a seafood pate with
algae. Apparently, it is very delicious and was a hit.
What a wonderful Christmas gift! I told her that this is what being sponsored is all about : making herself, her parents, her sponsor and me feel
like we are spot on for supporting her studies.
Mind you, she was the student who, since I began this Beca Blanca program in 2012, really suffered homesickness the most in her first semester. I
honestly thought for a second that she was not going to make it. The family is really close and she missed Mom and Dad verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry much.
Just as well that she is in Abreojos and they can't visit her but she can get rides and come home at least once a month.
Of course, she is smart and pretty, found a boyfriend fast. No more homesickness but then my fear was PREGNANCY!!! Oh my gosh, she got lots of
little notes from me regarding being super careful.
Let me tell you, this mentoring is stressful HAHAHAHAHA but I love every second of it and yesterday was a special day all around.
