Fly fishing Asuncion

Headed to Bahia Asuncion Christmas Day. Shari at La Bufadora has been most helpful with my 20,000 questions but she didn't have much info on the fly fishing, if any, in Asuncion. Has anybody out there fly fished there? Any helpful tips?

What kind of flyfishing did you have in mind? surf? blue water? There won't be dorado around during Christmas.

Have Juan take you out into the kelp beds and fly fish for Calicos. 8wt with a full sink fly line, 20# leader and clousers should work just fine. Cast out in the kelp lanes, let it sink, then strip, strip, strip....until the line is ripped from your hands lol.

It’s basically the same scenario up and down the coast, except Asunción hasn’t had any real Calico pressure.

One more thought, you probably will want some flies with weed guards.
