Car insurance
I believe I have read that there is a company that will sell short term US insurance, for US state registered vehicles. I've seen lots of companies
for Mexican vehicles making trips in to the USA, but not for American or Canadian registered.
Anybody know if such an insurance carrier does exist?

Do you want the insurance to go to the USA, and you are in Mexico?
If you are in Mexico, where are you?

I'm in Sonora.
Most insurance companies want you to buy six months minimum, and I would like to just purchase one month at a time.

I have vehicles in Alaska, and in California which may sit for six months or more without being driven. I keep an insurance policy in effect, but
notify my carrier when I put them in a storage status.
The cost is minimal to cover them for comprehensive theft or damage while stored, and I can start and stop liability insurance with a phone call, or
on line.

With some carriers, if you buy a six-month policy and cancel before six months is up, they will refund the unused portion. I believe I have had this
happen with GEICO and Americian Family.

i'm pretty sure if you let your USA insurance lapse your registration is cancelled
I think it's almost every state
so if you don't have insurance now...the registration is NO GOOD
this is the easiest ticket to give out...$$$
and...what they look for...unregistered cars and trucks on the road

Progressive sells insurance for six months with payment either for the entire six months or monthly. You can cancel any time with no penalty, and you
can buy either liability only or comprehensive. If you cancel at anytime during the six month term there is no penalty and any advance payments you
have tendered will be rebated to you prorated on a daily basis. You cannot arrange for the cancellation at the time you purchase the policy.
I recently did just this for a trip to the States of a little less than a month. The prepaid monthly fee for full coverage was $50+ U S. When I
cancelled the policy a little short of a full month I was refunded a few dollars for the days I was back in Mexico before the one month anniversary.
You can get a Progressive policy online in a few minutes and print out the policy and proof of insurance at home.

This is not true for vehicles registered in South Dakota.
