MEXICALI, Baja California (GH)
An accident between two all-terrain units, left a balance of two dead and three people injured, this happened in the dunes of the Port of San Felipe
on Friday afternoon.
At around 1:20 p.m., the accident between two Polaris RZR units was reported, in which both drivers, on collision, lost their lives almost
immediately.
It was indicated on the deceased that one was named Peter Van Sohren, about 54 years old, while the other driver of the unit was only said was a man
of about 65 years.
Apparently it is the Off Road pilot Pete Sohren known as "Pistol".
The injured people identified themselves as Farrah Sohren, Marlee Amus and Place Sohren, all transferred to the health center in San Felipe.

Shocking gut punch, per James Coats Weatherman San Felipe the girls are all ok. Pete was T boned in the dunes above the Cortez at a high rate of
speed. Both Pete and the other driver were killed in the accident. James said the girls Mother is on her way and they do have help and will let me
know if there is anything else needed. Pete was a good friend, but one of my Father the Weatherman’s Best Friends. They hunted, camped, raced, and
shared many great stories over years of friendship. I am going to have to let this tragic news settle in, loud and outspoken for sure, but a guy who
has passion for desert racing that propelled him to the top level of racing and he did it on a fraction of what anyone else did. Pistol Was a bad ass!

The other driver was an American that lived in the south campos. Very sad to hear, I hope the Sohren girls are ok.

Too sad. I met Pete last year at the SF 250. I told him of the time he was driving 108 MPH on the dump road with zero visibility in the dust. His
response was "I don't do that chit anymore" A Baja legend that we will miss.

Danger out of Sight
Back in the '60s on weekends, we used to go out to El Mirage Dry Lake to ride Dirt Bikes. With Bikes, Autos and aircraft
racing in every direction without restriction, it was a wild and crazy place with inevitable collisions.
BUT, at least one had (for the most part) visibility.
Living in Indio in the early '70s, a friend who owned a Sandrail invited us along for a weekend at Glamis. All of those wild,
crazy (and often inebriated) high speed drivers combined with the added dimension of (sometimes) zero ability to know what was coming
.................... I was never tempted to go back.
