Chapala cutoff
Friend heading to Idaho manana. He asked me if I knew anything about hwy. 5 conditions. He's driving an Econoline van 2WD. I told him I'd ask.

I drove it a couple of weeks ago, no problems at all! It is all paved except for a couple of detours around three bridges still under repair, but
they were in good shape.

As others stated, it is paved virtually all the way. But then you get to Chapala and they are working on Highway 1!!!!!!!! No big delay, but kind of
ironic.

I drove it 4 days ago...fully paved with three easy bridge getarounds. For a newbie heading north, please realize that there is no sign for the
turnoff

Yep, rode it two weeks ago on my moto, 35 minutes from Chapala to the gas station. Nice and smooth for now but the pavement that went down first near
Gonzaga bay is already starting to fall a part. Still a big improvement.

I read yesterday that Hwy. 5 thru San Felipe is closed. True?

In town now. Road is open. Malecon and many businesses closed, reduced hours for other businesses.
