kayak fishing south of san felipe???
had a lot of luck in Gonzaga Bay but tried a few other spots along the way and not to much...i was wondering about the south campo's and even the
enchanted islands...any good yakfishing down there???

Fishing the Islands
I don't know any thing about kayking but 7 people were drowned there last year fishing from small boats, the winds in the afternoon can be fierce, the
winds this week produced surf 6 or 8 feet along the beach there.

I can't comment on year-round fishing at Enchanted Islands, but the one time I kayaked to Isla Encantada, it was Baja-legendary. We spotted a boil
offshore - and casted into it (from shore!). In 15 minutes we had enough for dinner for 12. Awesome.
The day before, we had attempted to paddle to Isla Encantada, but were forced to return to shore due to huge breaking swells - a couple of us
capsized. The next morning, at first light, we headed for the island without incident, but encountered some large rolling swells nevertheless.
Don't take any chances and don't dawdle en route. Be prepared to wait out bad weather (provisions for a couple days).
As a side note, Isla Encantada is a pelican breeding/dying region. Nests abound, and the story is that pelicans go there too, to die.

I am at Campo Cristina which is 13 miles north of Puertecitos, turn of at sign "Palaya Campo Cristina" and we are 3 miles off the highway, white cabin
in middle of camp on the beach. Come on down, I fish off the bank, after 24 years of search and rescue, 12 years seaduty, I do not boat anymore in
anything less than 500' long. Saw a guy catch a big yellowtail from a kayak 2 weeks ago, he had fun! There are some excellent near shore areas down
that way, you can sit on the bluff and watch the fish boils and see them coming up!

We've pulled some great shifts in Kayaks along the Costilla to Okie landing area, I catch more fish from kayaks than I ever did in small boats. I have
been chased off the water in this area more than once, but always fished close to shore)where most of the fish are!) but in a kayak I am always
prepared to be in the water, wetsuit survival gear, food and WATER. as far a the crossing to the island I would rather do it in a kayak than a tin
boat any day. I survived a tin boat capsize off of encatada and dont plan on doing it again.

If any of you guys are heading down Baja between Christmas and New Years and want some company please let me know. I have a kayak and 4WD and am
always interested. Also, has anyone kayaked further south of Puertocitos, in a place called Bahia Calamajue? I stopped by there last month on my way
back from Loreto and it looked like a pretty interesting, and untouched, place to kayak and fish.

i kayaked Calamajue...
a couple years back...quite an awesome place,once you get out of that little bay it gets pretty interesting...a whale was hanging out close by and it
kept diving down and resurfacing closer to us so we ended getting pretty close...tons of sea life out there,bait balls and birds going off all over
the place,at least the day we were there...springtime if i remember correctly,Coco said there would be lots of snakes there but we never did see any
but we did get harassed by a swarm of bees

Fishing and camping along the Questas
There are several places along the Questas between Puertecitos and Nachos to get down to a camping spot in a fairly big rig, a couple of them are
small motor home acessible IF: You walk it first and are very careful and move nessary rocks and you are cofident that you have the power and traction
to get back up hill. These spots are not for everyone, some people can not even drive the main road safely. Check out the crosses and memorials along
the way. One spot that is fairly easy to acess is at Black Mt. ,Map name" Volcan Prieto". 12.2 miles south of Puertecitos at a turn off for the mine (
there is a circle for turning ore trucks) there is a road ( right next to Los Heme Wash)leading off to the east that is hard follow it until you
arrive at a road parrelling the beach, go to the south end away from the fish camps to the end of the road at a small mangrove swamp, stay away from
the beach and you will not get stuck, plenty of space for camping, best fishing off the exit from the little swamp or south if you have a boat. Deep
water near shore. Good fishing but not sheltered from the wind as are spots futher south but harder to acess. Good food at the resturant at Media
Luna/ Campo Christina ( And camping). Air down , go slow, move sharp rocks as needed , especialy near fresh rock falls and you will be fine. I have
made this trip many times and have never personaly ruined a tire but I have been with those that have and seen sidewalls cut on this stretch, it is a
long way to buy a LT-265-R-16E from here. I have never been to proud or "Baja Savy" to park it and engage in some road building.
