After this was reported about being a Can-am caravan, I texted Cameron and Heli-Jim, they both eventually replied that they are fine and far south of there.

wow -- this has some video:

https://www.cbs8.com/article/news/crime/shooting-leaves-peop...

So senseless - what's wrong with people

" Participants in a road race event about 90 miles south of the border were ambushed by gunmen who killed 10 of the drivers and wounded nine others, the Baja California State Attorney General’s Office said.

The victims were parked in their “dune buggy”-style race cars when several armed men jumped out of a late model silver SUV and started firing at the vehicles, according to a news release issued by the AG’s office."

The news reports today say:
“A struggle between members of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) -allied with the Arellano Félix cartel- and the Sinaloa Cartel, was what led to the massacre recorded this afternoon in the town of San Vicente,…

Unofficial data confirm this, and point to one of those murdered as Alonso Arámbula Piña alias El Trébol or El Loncho, 34, related to the Arellano Félix Cartel.”

+++

Pretty outrageous that the cartels think it is appropriate to wage their battles in city center during a public event!

I'm confused were cartel people participating in the UTV rally?

The previous statements make it sound like they targeted the riders?

Sounds that way to me. An AFC guy was killed so perhaps the Sinaloa Cartel guys were doing the shooting. I won't be surprised if details aren't published.

Cameron's tour Trail of Missions were here having lunch when the massacre happened in San Vicente. The attack on the Mexican rally group was very well coordinated and targeted rival cartel members...nothing to do with off road racing safety.
Word on the street is there is a struggle for control of the area and there may be retaliation.

Unfortunately the stories in the USA press didnt mention it was a cartel hit so people will just think off road racing is dangerous and this will cause more folks not to want to visit Baja....tourism is waaaay down for us so this is rather sad.
