Can you advise tourists how to recognize gangsters when they are in public space?

Can you recognize, or at least suspect, gang members when you're in the United States?

Unless someone has obvious gang tattoos, I don't know how you would. You don't think cartel guys ever wear suits and ties? Plenty of them look like respectable businessmen.

Silly question.
They do not want the public to identify them.
Cartel members look like any other typical Mexican man.
For the race scene they own and drive the top of the line vehicles, but that makes them fit in quite well and be undistinguished.

It is only when they are in combat mode that they can be identified by their automatic rifles in full display.

Oh I doubt they all engage in street combat, complete with camo and automatics. There's the head honchos who give the orders and the foot soldiers who do the dirty work.

Last year:

Lobster chiles rellenos sounds awesome and we know from Udo and my raves how great the crab chowder is (Caldo de jaiba)!

As for road info, I think that ended when the highway was completed in late 1973? :)
Also the mail delivery to brother Arturo at Laguna Chapala! ;D

Yes.

I read an article today saying that over 400 Mexican cops from various agencies including the military are on duty for the Baja 500 this weekend.

There will probably be a riot south of Ensenada when fans get caught up in Highway 1 traffic for hours and hours. Some frustrated gun nut will let loose.

Those "low ranking fall guys" are in danger from the police, the Federales, rival gangs, and now their own gangs! They are the migrants that I worry about heading north of the border for their own safety!

The sicarios are psychopathic meth heads, street thugs that do the dirty work. The cartel’s top dogs are untouchable since the top dogs have bought off the popo and politicians.
