That?s Amore Restaurant, Rosarito (deserves a separate post)
Ehhh, I?ve resisted posting about That?s Amore because, as the questioner in my head asks, ?Why would you recommend an Italian restaurant to people
going to Baja??
Well, That?s Amore is worthy of making a special trip by any standards.
Carlo, the chef/owner is meticulous about quality, service and presentation.
Upon entering, you see a lovely, open dining room with plaster walls painted in cream and terracotta red, with talavera sconces providing soft light
throughout. Pictures, artwork and various objets d?art dot the room, giving a visitor a very welcoming feeling.
Tables are set with floral tablecloths, colorful cloth napkins, silverware and stemware.
Service is graceful and responsive, the servers greet you and look to all the details, including replacing silverware during courses.
But, the food is everything here and the quality is first rate.
Today?s lunch consisted of an appetizer of calamari fritti, a large portion on a platter with lemon wedges and an arrabiata tomato sauce for dipping.
(Approx. $8.00)
An accompanying basket of complementary toasted garlic bread is replenished when empty. Ramekins of olive oil and balsamic vinegar are provided to
puddle together for a dipping sauce.
The growling gourmet had the eggplant parmesan special (approx $8.00), which came with choice of soup or salad. The soup is always a fresh daily
special and the salad is always ultra fresh field greens with either the house made Italian dressing (choose this!) or ranch. The main course was
delivered on a large white plate with a substantial serving of eggplant slices and cheese with a side of rigatoni, decorated with paprika dusted on
the wide rim and topped with a basil leaf.
I chose the ?That?s Amore? sandwich (approx. $6.00). It was about 10-12? long and at least 4-5? high, stuffed with four or more varieties of Italian
cold cuts, melted mozzarella cheese, red onions and the same field greens used in the salad. The crusty baguette style bread was lightly washed with a
balsamic vinaigrette.
The check, including ice tea and two glasses of wine, but not including tip, totaled approximately $40.00.
