New Dog requirements for dogs returning to US
Anyone know if there is a vet in San Felipe that can vaccinate, chip and do the required paperwork to take a dog north of the border?
Off grid, 12-190 watt evergreen solar panels on solar trackers, 2-3648 stacked Outback inverters, 610ah LiFePo4 48v battery bank, FM 60 and MX60
Outback charge controllers, X-240 Outback transformer for 240v from inverters, 6500 watt Kubota diesel generator.

There is a large veterinary equipped type store on the west side of Mar Caribe Sur between the traffic circle and the last Pemex going south.

I stopped by this one today and they said no problem but they want you to make an appointment. A block south off of 5 a couple blocks after the 7/11
as you are coming into town from the south.

Thank you, I'll call them. Not going down until mid October but I like to be ahead of the game.

FYI. I crossed the border Thursday at Mexicali Sentri Lane with my two dogs. That morning I stopped at Dr. Solis in San Felipe to get one chip in one
dog and rabies vaccination in both dogs. Cost was 1600 pesos and very convenient. I made an appt previously. Arrived at the border about 11:30. The
guy asked me if I had anything to declare and I said two dogs. He said have a nice day and I drove across. Oh well. Ready for next time.

There have been several discussions on other Mexican talk boards, indicating that the need for dogs returning from MEXICO, do not require all this
SPECIFIC TYPE OF chipping and frequent documentation. The reason given, SUPPOSEDLY according to some alluded-to US customs site, is that Mexico is not
identified on a list of countries where rabies is a problem. SUPPOSEDLY, these initial requirements were originally published in early summer and they
neglected to point out that Mexico and Canada are not on the list of countries considered a rabies risk. This created a lot of initial frenzy, as you
might assume.
What have others heard? I have not seen chapter and verse of this published.
I LITERALLY have no dog in this fight as my last dog died almost a year ago, to this date. I travel between Sonora and the US, 2-3 times a year. We
have kept our documentation with us but have only been asked once (officials on the US side) in about 25 years of traveling to Mexico with dogs.

Center for Disease Control July 22, 2024 Update with Chapter and Verse:
"To provide greater flexibility to the requirements for dogs coming from dog rabies-free or low-risk countries, when the rule goes into effect on
August 1, 2024 [at 12:00am ET], dogs that have spent the prior six months only in dog rabies-free or low-risk rabies countries will be able to enter
the United States with a CDC Import Form online submission receipt as acceptable documentation. This form can be filled out the day of travel and the
receipt can be shown to airlines and border officials as a printed copy or by phone. The receipt will be good for travel into the U.S. for six months
from the date of issuance, including multiple entries. All dogs entering the United States must have a microchip and be over six months of age.

So, this would seem to quash this very beneficial effort to find homes for puppies under 6 months in the US. This is going to dramatically increase
the number of dogs living on the streets in Mexico. In our community alone, in Sonora, literally dozens to hundreds of puppies have found homes in the
US and Canada.
What about the requirement to have a specific type of chip? This was causing quite a ruckus because many dogs who already had chips, DIDN'T HAVE THE
ONE DEEMED CORRECT, by the CDC.
I hope I dont live long enough to see chips required in humans, but I've no doubt that it's coming.

A few years back our group was spending a week at Asuncion, and Shari unloaded an orphan pooch on one of our guys. Nice dog. We named her "Vida"
When we got to San Quintin heading home the guy went to a local vet, got the shots and the certificate and we headed north
For the entire trip Vida sat perched on the center console of his pickup.....until we hit the border.
As we pulled up to the US CBP guy, Vida jumped down and slid under the seat of the car.
Five minutes past the border out she came and stayed sitting on the console all the way home
Smart dog!!

Yeah, there's something about a uniform that some dogs just don't like. I've experienced that in several dogs I've owned.

Here is a link to the new form. It's easy and they emailed back my receipt of completion in about 10 minuites. Application is good for 6 months,
multiple crossings from Mexico and not crossing specific.
