Playa Buenaventura Cantina is gone!

I am told that a reliable source confirms the ejido president had the legendary cantina demolished, despite being paid rent by the new tenant, Matt.

Most of us know about the Bahía Concepción bar & restaurant from the years that Mark & Olivia ran it and the terrible battle they had with Sr. Muñoz, 'the black hand'. About 2 years ago, Mark and Olivia ended their stewardship and Matt reopened it.

I don't know anything more, but thought I would let you all hear what I heard, in case you wanted to stop in for a cheeseburger and beer.

I hope Nomads will update this news and correct any mistakes I made about this. My last time there was in 2019, with Cameron's Trail of Missions Recon.

Foolish to get involved in ejido property. Lots of stories like this in Mexico.

Was there just before Covid in 2020. The place had gone way down hill.

What ever happened to Rafael Muñoz “el Mano Negra”

Last we heard he was arrested.

We stopped by there a year ago for lunch, and it was business as usual.

That is such a prime location, so I imagine that something new is already being planned for it.

Building anything on ejido land and keeping it going is a tough task. Too many hands come out when it appears successful.

Took a group of clinic volunteers a while back, had dinner and breakfast and stayed the night in one of their casitas. I was bummed cause I kept telling the group about the night sky they were going to experience, but it was overcast the entire night!

Passed by here a few days ago and EVERYTHING is simply gone!

The restaurant, the parking lot posts and ropes, even the plants. Nothing remains other than a faint outline of the rock foundation lines in the sand.

RIP Buenaventura.

Very happy to have had the chance to visit last year during the Baja 1000.

Lot's of weird history on that beach. I hope they do something good with it. I think the restaurant ran it's course and the hotel was long since dilapidated. I wouldn't be surprised if they just put up a couple palapas and charge to camp there.
