50 years ago, Score's First Baja 1000 (new webpage of my photos)

Slow Baja is having an event with former Score president, Sal Fish to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the Score Baja 1000. That inspired me to make a new webpage...

The race began as the NORRA Mexican 1000 in 1967 (to 1972), more often called 'Baja 1000'. Mexico took over for the 1973 Baja Mil (1000) with its organization (BSC)... very poorly run and the top finishers, in La Paz, didn't get paid their winnings. The BSC Baja 500 in June 1974 was a no show for most and NORRA put on a race in the US at the same time.

In a panic, government of Baja California went to Mickey Thompson and asked if he would run races in the state with his new SCORE organization. That was the July 1974 Baja Internacional. It was a huge success. I made a page of my photos there last year (link at the bottom of this new page).

Mickey got the contract to run races in Baja California (state)... but he felt there was not enough time to properly organize a quality Baja 1000 in 1974, and that was the only year without one.

SCORE's FIRST BAJA 1000, Oct. 30-Nov. 1, 1975, an 800 mile loop starting and ending in Ensenada (the first loop 1000). My photos from nearly 50 years ago: https://vivabaja.com/1975-score-baja-1000/
