We are leaving in two weeks. A detour to Bahia Los Angeles is not planned. Is the trip from San Felipe to Guerrero Negro too much to bite off in one day? The rest of our trip to the Pacific near La Paz is more relaxed, but this stretch has no lodging possibilities, it seems.

That drive is definitely doable. You can always stay the night in Catavina to make it a little shorter drive. But there are hotels in between….have fun.

Easy 6 hour drive with great scenery. Stop lots and enjoy the views, have dinner in Guerrero Negro.

Fairly easy drive. If needed, there is a hotel at the turnoff to LA Bay on Hwy 1

Agreed, that will be no issue. I usually cross Mexicali around 7am and will get to San Ignacio by 5pm.

In that pre-Google Earth and social media epoch, The Code was adhered to. It was based on a simple verity: if a locale had been transformational for you, and you had put the hard yards in to get there and to learn it, to know it, why in gods name would you broadcast the news, thus ruining the future experience not only for yourself, but for future adventurers?

Yes, easy (as others say)...
There is lodging at Parador Punta Prieta (The L.A. Bay highway jcn.), a new motel that looks very nice is next door to the abandoned gas station. There is also a small motel in (Nuevo) Rosarito (Hotel Cactus) and in Villa Jesus María (Hotel Villa del Mar).

Cataviña is not along the route, but 30 miles north on Mex 1 from Laguna Chapala (where Mex 5 meet Mex 1).

See locations mentioned on my map:HERE

Great to reach GN and stay at Halfway Inn (just past military camp) and eat at Mario’s down the road. The Inn is clean enough and always had a good meal at Mario’s.

We did the drive from El Centro to GN in one day a few months ago. But never again for these old bones.

How do you get from S.Felipe to Catavina without backtracking over 50 miles from Chapala? That makes more than 100 miles back to Chapala.

Thanks for bumping a thread that definitely makes me look like an idiot. Just kidding. All I was trying to say was if you needed to stop somewhere around that area that’s an option.

I did that twice because the people I was with wanted a better hotel than what is in the surrounding areas.

I believe someone above already pointed out the lack of logic in my post.

Everyone, feel free to completely disregard my post

Yes, a glance at a map will show Cataviña is 30+ miles in the wrong direction from your route. The new motel Parador at the L.A. Bay junction is a option if you got a late start, 30 some miles from the Hwy 5 junction.

Speaking of which, anybody know the story of that (junkyard?) on the SE corner of that junction?

Stayed at the Parador on our last trip. Nice room, allowed pets, nice restaurant, good rates.

"Speaking of which, anybody know the story of that (junkyard?) on the SE corner of that junction?"

I am pretty sure that it is, or was, an "end of life" facility for wrecked or abandoned vehicles in that area.
