Cupcake, for being the singular voice for not driving anywhere yourself, your voice is indeed singular on this forum.
I never got the impression from your posts of being on one side or the other, in regards to blue or red.
You have provided a fresh voice to this forum site.
I never considered not driving myself after over fifty years, and still don't.
The one time I rode with a friend down to Cabo/Pescadero was an adventure all of its own and never been repeated.
Camping at Pescadero in a tent during a hellacious storm had
me longing for my van.
Watching the sides of my tent flapping like crazy all night long,
had me longing for my van.
Camping next to John of the Mama's and Papa's was singular.
Seeing Bill Waltons trailer parked at Pescadero all winter was singular, until the water flowed, taking out the restaurant and camp grounds.
I always parked on the bluff above the valle for such occasions when Mother Nature showed her power.
The locals I met a the time remain a treasure.
Ross, thank you for much more than the slats of organic strawberries we all enjoyed.
Your hospitality was appreciated at the time and I wish you well all these years later.

Yes, I have been a lifelong registered Independent, and have voted for both Democrats and Republicans.
I did drive in Mexico decades ago, when the world was a different and seemingly safer place. I even drove round trip down to Panama from Los Angeles
once; a trip I enjoyed very much.

Of course profiling happens. It's a statistically useful tool for law enforcement, duh.
My opinion is that those that claim it shouldn't exist, don't understand the profession.
What they DO with that profile information is the point here. The situation you described goes beyond statistics into discrimination.

They have left the door open for using racial profiling in the "most exceptional circumstances". But normally no. This might well be different when
considering what ICE does, and can do legally, when trying to apprehend people that are in the country illegally. There might well be a distinction
between that and border crossings / ports of entry procedures.
"The use of race and ethnicity information in violation of this policy may subject CBP employees to discipline under the Standards of Conduct."

I guess this is what happens when there is a serious lack of real Baja content on this site...
Toobman - From someone who crosses twice a month, the border is fine. I have observed absolutely no change. Just have your correct documents, declare
as necessary, and don't "accidentally" have anything on you that you aren't supposed to.
This is just not something to stress over. Now, off to prepare for another semi-monthly Baja trip.

I don't cross the border near as often as you folks living near it, but I have been crossing for quite a few years now.
In 2024, crossing northbound at San Luis Rio Colorado, I encountered an agent that apparently was having a very bad day. That was the only time I
have ever been treated in a less than professional manner!
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!
"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!
