Profepa shuts down 6 developments in Cabo Pulmo

Profepa shuts down 6 developments in Cabo Pulmo for building without environmental permits

Google Translate;

Los Cabos, Baja California Sur (BCS). The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) conducted an inspection operation in Cabo Pulmo National Park, resulting in the temporary closure of six real estate developments for carrying out construction without environmental impact authorization. The actions were carried out from February 16 to 25 with the support of National Guard personnel, following citizen complaints about potential damage to the Los Cabos coastal area.

During the inspections, Profepa personnel located eight sites where formal inspections were conducted. Construction activities and modifications to the land without federal permits were confirmed at six of these sites. Among the detected works were perimeter walls, fences, parking areas for RVs, and changes in land use in forest areas with sarcocaulescent scrub vegetation, a characteristic ecosystem of Baja California Sur.

The properties closed correspond to the developments known as “The Last Place” (1.19 hectares), “La Ribera” (1.12 hectares), “Costa Coral” (24.9 hectares), an unnamed property (15.7 hectares), “Las Barracas Beach Club” (14.2 hectares), and another fenced plot of approximately 0.23 hectares. No activities under federal jurisdiction were found at the two remaining sites, so only incident reports were filed.

The head of Profepa, Mariana Boy Tamborrell, emphasized the importance of protecting the reef ecosystem of the protected natural area, declared in 1995 and recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. “In Cabo Pulmo, there is no room for illegal construction… The conservation of this natural heritage takes precedence over any private interest,” she stated.

Those inspected may appear within the next 5 business days to present documentation or arguments. Profepa will determine the corresponding administrative actions and, if necessary, will order the restoration of the affected sites.

There are only 4 Profepa Inspectors for Las Tunas, Todos to Pescadero and all of BCS.

Developers know there are only 4, and can start their crap until caught.

That seems to be good news. I wonder how much the required permits cost?

Lee - thank you for the shout-out to my Grandmother! Isabel Adorno Maldonado (1910 - 2002). And yes, the developers who play the odds and build illegally are without shame.
