How are the gasoline prices in Baja doing?

I had planned to be on the road by now, but I am still stuck in northern CA.

I plan to head down the gulf side, probably only as far as Loreto (with lots of side trips) and I was wondering what I will have to pay for regular gas along the way south of the border?

Thanks chippy! None of the places I usually fill up at are listed, but it gives me an idea of what they are probably like.

Now to do the conversions to dollars per gallon to get my head right.

Have a great trip and I will look forward to your trip reports!
25 pesos per liter is around the figure that should help you budget.
17.88 is today's peso to dollar exchange, but at gas stations, you are probably lucky to get 17 to 1.
Let's do the math!...
US$1.47/liter
US$5.57/gallon
FYI, here in San Diego County that is about what Costco gas goes for and stations along the freeway are about $6 or higher.

Thanks David. The Costco nearest to me is at $4.99, but it is thirty miles west of Grass Valley ($5.25 here). I usually head east to Nevada, then south to Mexicali, and the gas is below California prices.

It is not really cheaper in the long run since it is a longer drive, but I prefer wide open spaces to freeways through cities.

I'm on the mainland in Sonora. I noticed that diesel and premium went up after the Gulf thing, but regular stayed about the same. I'm in northern Sonora which supposedly has the highest gas prices in Mexico. Premium and diesel are right around 29.99 pesos/liter.

Diesel has been over 6.00US/gallon since before that; partly due to the decline of the dollar.

I'm heading down to Baja Sur next week as well, been curious on gas prices. My friends in Mexicali say its about $4.50usd/gal there. North County SD is hovering around $6.00-$6.25/gal. So it will feel cheap to me... :/

In that pre-Google Earth and social media epoch, The Code was adhered to. It was based on a simple verity: if a locale had been transformational for you, and you had put the hard yards in to get there and to learn it, to know it, why in gods name would you broadcast the news, thus ruining the future experience not only for yourself, but for future adventurers?

Dk,
Some of the retail stations are cheaper than costco. Seems like many stations now offer 20 cents per gal discount for cash, that’s like a 3.5% discount :thumbup::thumbup:

Hi Larry,
The official exchange rate (17.88) was from the Internet, yesterday.
I was just guessing on what the stations offered.
No surprise that they only give 16.40: 1 US dollar.
Thanks!

OK...thank you.
I don't have any independent gas stations around me to see their price. So, the cheapest gas I am aware of is Costco (where I almost-only buy gas). Typically, about 60-80 cents (or more) a gallon cheaper than brand stations (like Mobile, ARCO, Chevron) that I see when driving in North County.

and, for better than California gas, if it doesn't have ethanol in it!
I always get 1-2 more miles per gallon in my loaded truck in Baja than when it is empty on California gasoline.

Only time I don't is if I buy gas in Mulegé where they can squeeze 22 liters into a 19 liter can! LOL
