I see the road going through the wire fence at the back of the north side of the Rancho Chapala property on Highway 1.

Is it OK to just go and use this entrance gate to the road without asking first? I always feel awkward going through people's property - though in Baja roads sometimes do go right through the center of ranchos.

As a general 'rule' (from my experience) a fence/gate is to control animal movement and only if it is locked, or signs say do not enter, does it apply to humans.

That road is fun if you're out there to four-wheel. In a lifted and locked land cruiser I was definitely taking my time. The southern route past La Misera was no joke. Did that last year in a Ford Super Duty and will not be doing that again. 🤣

In that pre-Google Earth and social media epoch, The Code was adhered to. It was based on a simple verity: if a locale had been transformational for you, and you had put the hard yards in to get there and to learn it, to know it, why in gods name would you broadcast the news, thus ruining the future experience not only for yourself, but for future adventurers?

What's the southern route past La Misera?

Is that the road past San Antonio to Las Palomas and then El Sauz to Bahía Blanca? I thought about doing that a few years ago, but turned around halfway between Hwy 1 and the Pacific coast when I realized I wasn't in the mood for a day of slow bumpy driving in the heat.

It was Rancho La Miseria (Misery Ranch)... the name told to me by the couple who begged me to take them to Santa Rosalillita, in the dark... and then on to Punta Prieta! (April 2017 trip)...

We (tacoma and vw amarok) drove the k 252 route out to blanco and onto cardón yesterday. It was a rutted rocky slog=slow. 4.5 hrs to cardón. Good news is the silt beds weren't an issue.
