Mexicali to Bay of LA

The road was in great shape all the way! There were a few rocks in the narrow spots that someone had moved out of the lane into the "gutter". Definitely a place to slow down a bit.

Very sad note, the wind was incredibly strong from south of Puertacitos the rest of the way. We were surprised to see so many motorcyclists on the road. Wind gusts reported over 40mph. A few bikers were wisely going slow, but many were going fairly fast. Shortly after we joined Hwy 1 a couple of cars flashed their lights at us signaling that something was up ahead. Next thing wee see vehicles stopped in the road and several people out. A bad motorcycle accident had just occurred and one body was just off the road covered in a blanket and some people were distraught. We asked if we could help but the people said no, and that calls had been made to the authorities. Very sad. After feeling the impact of the winds on my car I can't imagine what it would have been like on a cycle. Be careful and slow down as the conditions dictate. Be safe everyone.

I've ridden that route when the wind gusts were brutal... And remarkably abrupt

Yes, me too. My son and I were on dirt bikes a while back and took a break as soon as we hit Lake Chapala ... the wind blew our unattended bikes over.
Once on the bikes again heading north, it was a brutal effort just to stay on the road, let alone in the right lane. Each vehicle that caught up behind us didn't dare to pass us! I'm sure it was a spectacal to watch us struggle.
