Los Cabos, Baja California Sur (BCS). The State Attorney General's Office (PGJE) has opened an investigation file regarding the crimes of aggravated
homicide and attempted aggravated homicide (in its consummated form), following violent incidents recorded on the night of Saturday, May 30, in Los
Cabos.
Officers of the Los Cabos Municipal Police, while patrolling the Transpeninsular Highway near the entrance to the Costa Dorada neighborhood, observed
an ongoing confrontation, authorities reported.
At the scene, an official vehicle belonging to the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) was located, containing two personnel members who had
sustained gunshot wounds; meanwhile, two other members were positioned defensively behind a Dodge Ram pickup truck, which bore multiple bullet
impacts.
Among the evidence seized were: a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck (an official SEDENA vehicle), a Dodge Ram pickup truck, a Toyota Tacoma pickup
truck, and a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV.
Additionally, authorities seized five long-barreled firearms (rifles), loaded magazines chambered in .762x39 and 5.56 mm calibers, a rifle-mounted
grenade launcher attachment (loaded with a grenade), a tactical vest containing five loaded magazines of various types, numerous spent brass casings,
and blood samples.
“All collected evidence was transported and secured under a strict chain of custody at the San José del Cabo Evidence Storage Facility for the
pertinent forensic analyses,” authorities stated.
Regarding the SEDENA personnel involved, it was reported that one of the officers—a 20-year-old—sustained gunshot wounds that are life-threatening
and are expected to take more than 30 days to heal. The second officer—a 25-year-old—sustained injuries that are expected to take more than 30
days to heal but are not life-threatening. Regarding the injured civilians who arrived at a hospital in Los Cabos as collateral victims, it was
reported that the group includes two men, aged 31 and 35 respectively; the former, a native of California, USA, was pronounced dead hours after his
admission.
Also among the injured are a 43-year-old woman—as well as the second injured man mentioned above—a 14-year-old minor from San José del Cabo who
sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, and a 65-year-old woman who suffered leg injuries requiring more than 15 days to heal and which are, in
fact, life-threatening.
Finally, the PGJE stated that the injured civilians were traveling in their private vehicles at the time of the confrontation; furthermore, necessary
investigative measures remain underway to clarify the facts of the case and locate those allegedly responsible.
