San Felipe Thanksgiving trip questions

Hey everyone,

It’s been years since I have been on this forum. At least pre COVID. Our family and friends have not been down to San Felipe, Percebu, or Gonzaga since 2019.

A group of us are thinking of going for Thanksgiving.

We usually had camped at Percebu or Gonzaga.

What is the state of either place? Any recommendations? Things to look out for? Drastic changes since 2019?

Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Perfect place for a Thanksgiving weekend. Percebu and Gonzaga are still pretty much unchanged since 2019. When you say camping, do you mean dry camping without services or are you looking for a campground?

The Lopez family still owns and runs Percebu campo. Since your last visit, they have built a new bath/shower room in the campground. The restaurant is no longer opened, but the bar serves very good food Friday through Sunday. Since you have last been there, Chenowth's has opened a resort just a short ways North of the campground, on the beach, with a nice bar and so so food. Also a bit further North from them, Jenny's is still there with great food and drinks.

Just go like it's your first trip to Baja... and enjoy what you find.
With all the memories I have of Percebu and Gonzaga, going back to the 60's, it is a bit of a shock at all the new stuff, but there are still places unchanged... like Shell Island (the sand bar beach across the Percebu lagoon to Bahía Santa María's back bay entrance); the sulfur mine; Puertecitos hot springs ($$ now); Puertecitos is pretty deserted looking, as it has been for some time; and the geologic of historic points of interest near and at Gonzaga Bay. We generally like a campground. Showers and toilets. Percebu and Beluga in Gonzaga is where we usually stay.

I hear Beluga is closed. Is that true?
