Cabo Fishing Report - Sept 29th - Wahoo - Sailfish

Cabo Fishing Report - September 29, 2026 - 1 Sailfish Released, 1 Wahoo

Team Australia found two quality pelagic species surprisingly close to Cabo on September 29, with the action developing approximately two miles off Whale's Head.

Jeremy and Jodie, visiting from Australia, brought their sons Jackson, age 10, and Toby, age 12, aboard the 43' Riviera Blue Sky for a five-hour family charter.

Boat: 43' Riviera Blue Sky | Guests: 4 | Charter: 5 Hours
Departure: 7:00 AM | Return: 12:00 PM | Location: Whale's Head
Distance Offshore: ~2 Miles | Sailfish: 1 Released | Wahoo: 1

The most interesting part of the morning was the location of the fish.

Instead of making a long run offshore, productive water was found only about two miles off Whale's Head. That was particularly useful with two younger anglers aboard because more of the five-hour charter could be spent fishing.

The sailfish provided the first major encounter.

Once hooked, the fish used its speed and surface ability during the fight. Sailfish can change direction quickly and are capable of spectacular aerial displays. After the fight was completed, the fish was brought alongside and successfully released.

The wahoo gave the family an entirely different experience.

Wahoo are built for speed. Their streamlined bodies and powerful tails can produce an explosive initial run, making them one of the most exciting pelagic predators encountered around the southern Baja peninsula.

Finding both a sailfish and wahoo in the same general area also showed the variety present in Cabo's late-September warm-water fishery.

For Jeremy and Jodie, the trip was about more than the catch. Bringing Jackson and Toby fishing while visiting Cabo gave the family a chance to experience Baja's offshore fishery together.

By noon, Team Australia was back at the marina after five hours aboard Blue Sky.

One sailfish released, one wahoo and productive water approximately two miles off Whale's Head made this a solid late-September Cabo fishing morning.
