Cabo Fishing Report - October 16, 2026 - Yellowfin Tuna

Cabo Pacific Fishing Adventure on a Private Charter Delivers Five Yellowfin Strikes

Seven miles offshore from the Lighthouse at Cabo Falso, the Pacific Ocean delivered a memorable afternoon of yellowfin tuna action for Robert and six fellow anglers aboard the 60-foot Bertram Blue Sea.

On October 16, 2026, the group experienced five yellowfin tuna strikes in just two hours and twenty minutes while trolling blue-and-pink Cuchito lures.

One yellowfin weighing 53 pounds was successfully landed. Four additional tuna were hooked but broke off before reaching the boat.

The outing was the first of two scheduled fishing days with Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charters, and it provided an exciting introduction to the autumn offshore fishing opportunities around southern Baja California.

Cabo Falso Fishing Grounds on a Pacific Charter Offer Offshore Opportunities

The Lighthouse at Cabo Falso is a familiar landmark along the Pacific coastline west of Cabo San Lucas.

This stretch of southern Baja is known for its dramatic coastal scenery and access to offshore waters where yellowfin tuna, dorado, marlin, and wahoo may be encountered during different seasons.

For anglers familiar with Baja California Sur, the area provides an interesting contrast to the Sea of Cortez fishing grounds on the opposite side of the peninsula.

Robert's group departed Cabo San Lucas Marina at 6:15 AM for an eight-hour private charter.

Aboard the 60-foot Bertram Blue Sea, the crew concentrated on waters approximately seven miles offshore from the Lighthouse.

The trolling presentation included Cuchito lures with blue upper sections and pink undersides, along with tournament-style dredge equipment.

The first part of the morning was spent searching for active fish.

Then the tuna began responding.

Cabo Yellowfin Fishing Action During a Private Charter Intensifies Before Afternoon

At approximately 11:00 AM, the first yellowfin tuna strike was recorded.

Over the next 140 minutes, four more tuna struck the trolling presentation.

Five encounters in a relatively short period created an exciting stretch of offshore fishing for the seven anglers.

One yellowfin was successfully landed, weighing 53 pounds.

Four additional tuna were hooked but broke off during their fights.

Yellowfin tuna are powerful offshore predators, capable of sustained runs and sudden changes of direction.

Even a moderate-sized tuna can create a demanding fight, particularly when the fish dives beneath the vessel or changes direction unexpectedly.

The specific reasons for the four breakoffs were not documented.

The confirmed catch was one 53-pound yellowfin tuna, with four additional fish hooked and lost.

Cabo Trolling Fishing Techniques on a Bertram Charter Attract Yellowfin

The blue-and-pink Cuchito lures used during the outing were an important part of the trolling presentation.

For anglers fishing Baja waters, lure selection often changes with water clarity, sunlight, and the presence of baitfish.

Blue-and-pink combinations provide visual contrast, although lure colour alone does not determine whether a tuna will strike.

Presentation, trolling speed, fish location, and feeding activity can all influence results.

The Blue Sea also carried tournament-style dredge equipment.

A dredge creates the appearance of schooling baitfish and is commonly incorporated into offshore trolling spreads.

Although the charter record does not establish whether the dredge directly influenced the strikes, the vessel's trolling setup generated five yellowfin encounters between 11:00 AM and 1:20 PM.

Cabo Autumn Fishing Conditions Around a Pacific Charter Change Daily

October can be a productive period for offshore fishing around Cabo San Lucas.

Yellowfin tuna may be found along the Pacific side, but their location can shift with currents, baitfish concentrations, and changes in water temperature.

Some days require considerable searching before fish are encountered.

Other days produce concentrated periods of activity when tuna begin feeding.

Robert's October 16 charter illustrated the second possibility.

Approximately seven miles offshore from the Lighthouse, five yellowfin tuna struck within two hours and twenty minutes.

The 53-pound fish that reached the boat provided the day's confirmed catch, while the four breakoffs highlighted the challenges of landing powerful offshore tuna.

For Baja fishing enthusiasts, the report offers a useful snapshot of yellowfin activity along the Pacific coast during October.

Cabo Two-Day Fishing Adventure Begins with a Private Offshore Charter

Robert and his six fellow anglers were completing the first of two scheduled fishing days aboard the 60-foot Bertram Blue Sea.

Their eight-hour outing began at 6:15 AM, with a scheduled return at 2:15 PM.

The most productive fishing occurred between 11:00 AM and 1:20 PM, when five yellowfin tuna struck the trolling lures.

One tuna weighing 53 pounds was landed, while four additional hooked fish broke off.

The experience demonstrated both the excitement and unpredictability of offshore fishing around Cabo Falso.

For visitors exploring the southern Baja coastline, the Lighthouse remains a recognizable starting point for understanding the Pacific fishing grounds surrounding Cabo San Lucas.

Wow, That's a pretty weak fishing report, especially for a $4750.00 charter!

Better off pushing off the beach in a panga well away from any marina, and we are often back on the beach with limits before 10:00 am.
