november 1 fishing report san jose del cabo

Is November a good month for fishing in Los Cabos?

November is one of the better months of the year here, and the first week has backed that up.

What is biting right now out of San Jose del Cabo: yellowfin tuna in a 20 to 40 pound range, which is the most consistent fishing available and the one most likely to put fish in the boat on any given day. Sailfish activity jumped this week, and sailfish are the single best billfish for a first timer because you usually see the fish come up behind the bait before anything happens. Wahoo are also active at 20 to 30 pounds, and wahoo is honestly the best eating fish out of all of them.

Being honest about what is not producing: dorado are slow right now, and the blue and black marlin have moved out as the water cools. That is a normal seasonal change, not a bad year. If marlin is specifically what you want, the striped marlin are at peak season on the Pacific side out of Cabo San Lucas, so you would want to book from that side rather than San Jose.

Weather is the other reason November is a good pick. Highs in the mid 80s, overnight lows near 70, wind usually in single digits, and water around 82 degrees. It is the most comfortable time of year to be on a boat here, far easier than the August and September heat.

Two practical notes. Book earlier than you think, because November and December fill up. And if you are in town November 3 through 7, the Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot is running out of Cabo San Lucas, which is worth going to watch at the weigh in even if you are not fishing it. The whole town shows up.

Happy to answer anything specific about the area.
