October 2026 Road Report

On Oct. 22-23-24, southbound. Mexicali to Bahía Asunción
Oct. 26-27, northbound.

Mex. 5, was nearly perfect. A couple of potholes south of San Felipe at Km. 15 & 25.
The military checkpoint at Gonzaga Bay has been gone for a while and now the structure over the highway and the concrete raised dividers in the road are removed.

Mex. 1, only a few potholes near Laguna Chapala (Kms. 239 & 265)

Bahía Tortugas highway (west of Vizcaino) had several potholes to dodge. The Asunción section was fine.

Exchange was 17.30 pesos: dollar
Fuel prices:
Mexicali: Reg. 20.99/liter; Diesel 25.39
San Felipe: Reg. 23.99/liter; Diesel 26.99
Bahía de los Angeles: Reg, 25.00/liter; Diesel 25.39
Vizcaino: Reg. 24.95/liter

The dirt road south of L.A. Bay was pretty typical, as far as San Rafael. After that, it began to deteriorate until arriving at the El Arco/ San Francisquito junction.

Near Punta San Francisquito, mostly fast roads:

The east half of the 12 mile side road to Mission Santa Gertrudis was preet rocky from the flash floods:

Here is the state border on the road to Guillermo Prieto and Mex 1 near Vizcaino...

Speaking of roads...

While it was researched 8-9 years ago, with updates made up to this year, my 'Baja Bound' Road Guide can still be useful, and it is still FREE online:
