How many were there last year? Is this a normal count or below normal as some had said global warming would cause?

I heard that this is the best count in a long time from the whale camps.

Judy, it is not only a great foto, but representative of their purpose for being there.... well, the males at least.

David: Last year's count was just over 1100 in Scammon's Lagoon, so this is a definite improvement!

Wonderful news! More whales... and happy ones at that!

So, are the enviros wrong again, or if there really is global warming then it must be a good thing!

This is the highest count I have heard so far. I used to do the census in Ojo de Liebre(Scammons Lagoon) and the count seems to increasing every year.
although some years due to natural fluxes in numbers, the counts were down a little, but it seems to be steadily increasing now, particularly in this
lagoon where there are the least amount of pangas working so it is the best controlled...as well there is a large area where boats are not permited at
all(which incidently is where the greatest number of whales congregate!!) Ojo de Liebre is the largest calving lagoon in the world and is where over
half the species comes from ( ie: is born). It is a magical place where you can camp and listen to the whales breathing all night long in front of the
campground. Definately worth a visit!

Right or wrong - this has nothing to do with global warming - it's more likely a result of the protection from hunting the whales have enjoyed.

I agree Roberto... I was making a reply to the enviromentalist story that the whale count was DOWN and 'global warming' was the cause!

As suspected, it was just a made up 'story' to drum up support for their agenda...
