Release: Loreto Bay Company Announces Major Milestones

* To date, more than 600 homes have been sold, representing nearly
$300 million in sales. After selling out the Founders' Neighborhood,
the first nine phases that will comprise The Villages of Loreto Bay,
Loreto Bay Company began to offer last October, homes in Agua Viva, a
new neighborhood right along the Sea of Cortes with a vibrant
confluence of human habitation and a series of regenerated estuaries.
* One percent of homes sales continue to be donated to the Loreto Bay
Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to serving the economic and social
needs of the historic town of Loreto. With the current pace of sales,
approximately $3 million has been pledged to the Foundation, which has
begun to distribute grants to charities affiliated with Loreto to
assist them in their efforts towards creating a better community. The
first donations were used to enhance services at Loreto's hospital;
other grants include support for animal welfare, health services,
education, job creation, economic development, urban planning and
environmental awareness.
* In the last year, tourism to the Loreto Bay region has increased
exponentially. To improve the tourism offering in the region, Loreto
Bay Company and Citigroup through a joint venture purchased the
155-room Camino Real Resort, located near Baja's historic fishing
village of Loreto. The property, now the Inn at Loreto Bay, will
undergo extensive renovations to begin this year. Planned renovations
include full beautification of the property grounds, fitness facility
upgrades and major improvements to all hotel rooms. The focus on
sustainable development in the region heavily contributed to
Citigroup's decision to participate in this venture.
* For visitors who desire spacious accommodations, the rental program of
The Villages of Loreto Bay will allow visitors to stay in beautifully
furnished vacation homes. Launching in early 2007, visitors looking
for one, two and three bedroom villas in various
locations -- waterfront, golf course, courtyard and mountains -- will
be able to begin making reservations this fall.
* Loreto Bay Company successfully launched its first learning vacation,
"Building with Adobe," to educate visitors on the environmental focus
of the destination. The experience provides visitors the opportunity
to spend an unforgettable long weekend in Loreto Bay while learning
about the growing use of adobe and compressed earth block as a building
resource. This learning vacation is the first of many ecotourism
learning vacation products that Loreto Bay Company will be launching in
the years to come. Others will focus on topics such as organic
farming, sea turtle exploration and Baja flora.

Seriously, if you go to the Loreto Bay Foundation, they mention two funds...the Medical Facility fund and the Children's fund...and ask for
contributions!!! Last year they published a financial report for the previous year that showed that next to nothing was actually donated. Quite a
bit was spent in foundation director's travel. This seems to have disappeared from the website...I asked about last years funding, and was told it
would appear on the website. If it did, I can't find it. Has anyone else actually seen the financial statements for the foundation?

The 2004 year end report for the foundation is on Mark Spalding's website - he's the director of Ocean Foundation. And Ocean Foundation is the conduit
through which the LB Foundation money flows - because it wants 501c3 status. The 2005 year-end report should be out, but so far I have not found it.
501c3 charitable organizations are accountable and their reports are public info.

For gawds sake we live in Loreto, not Loreto Bay. They've turned our name into their name. They have only a small area when compared to the rest of
the municipality and one would think the whole damn thing is called Loreto Bay. Makes me loca

The most recent Gringo Gazette Southern Edition really lambasted Loreto Bays golf course, referring among other things, having to "play through" a
goat herd & two dogs. One comments of a set of golfers was, "the dogs wouldn't allow them to 'play through', so they 'played around'!!!!!!!!
With this article, I'm sure there will be a small loss from players not coming down to play this course now. Of course it would be those that read
the G.G. Also!!!!!!!!!This issue of the 20th, now has a section devoted to Loreto. They have finally hit the "big time?????" Don't think so. They
got a few businesses to advertise. Noticed in a recent handout at the Resort, they were giving up on the solar energy because of the costs being
prohibitive, and will rely on wind generators. Sounds great when the wind blows, but what during the rest of the time?

Playing the course here in Loreto is fun when the cattle, goats and dogs are on the course. Keep you forgetting the sorry shape it's in for the amount
of money you're paying. The dogs try to keep you away from the goats ( that's their job ) but they hightail it if you confront them. Sometimes that's
the most fun of the round, if you play like I do

Loreto Golf
The dogs and goats are both prone to make off with an occasional golf ball. The cattle are now banned from the entire course and corraled to make it
stick. The goats are still on the back nine over the road, and the sheep are on 10 and 18. The dogs make some show when you are moving away or far
off, but when approached they stay clear.
Another interesting development in the continuing development saga: An archaeological dig is underway in an old shell midden. It is under INAH, the
National Institute for Archaeology and History, being paid for by LB, and hoping to find something interesting. If they uncover human remains, there
will be complications for LB as it is in their next phase area right between Whale's Inn and the end of LB Founders Village. Only complications,
though, nothing serious.
Ed, you can see them from your front porch; they are under a white tarp slightly north and east of the 8th green.
PS: Gringo Gazzette South has a reputation, earned I think, for bending, rephrasing, blurring, and generally disregarding the truth.

I was poking around on the Loreto Bay website this afternoon. The picture below came from the "town of Loreto" slide show. Anybody know just where
in Loreto this is? There are many other wonderul sights that I haven't found yet--- So much Loreto- so little time!

Heh,heh, Mija and I used to walk the whole of Nopolo and what is now called Loreto Bay with baby in jogger and Guerro(the wonder dog) .One day we
decide to take in the beauty of the "golf course".Walked the whole course, baby in tow, all the while Wonderdog was flushing Herons and other birds
from their turf.It is a very fine memory from that time in our lives.Many perros , all local, had to defend their territories, and rightfully so, but
the One And Only Wonderdog was the champion of all!! After all, he was not only protecting his baby and us , but he did it in such a fine fashion,
just giving the other Perros a smack of the hind end(kinda like a spanking of the doggies) and a rearing up just to let them all know he was here to
protect and thats all!! I am sure that those memories will last forever for me!!That was more than a year ago, but not much. I knew things were going
to change ,and they did and will continue to do so. To cuote a good friend of this board, "get down here and enjoy it while you can".
Happiness is just a Baja memory away...

I remember Paula and I walking with our dog Fillmore where the "Founder's Village" is now, and Fillmore chasing a cardinal. Oh well...
They are, I think, landscaping the area with "palapa trees."
