need advice from baja verterans
hello-
I am driving to Loreto and then muertos bay(tip of the east cape) with my wife and daughter. We will be spending 2 or 3 days in Loreto and 2 or 3
days in Muertos. This will be my first time driving down to baja sur. I am pulling a 22 baja bayrunner aluminum, as well as my fishing kayak on my
truck.I will have 2 dirtbikes (as well as coolers, expensive fishing gear, boat electronics,gas cans, etc.) Looking for advice and suggestions on how
to do it safely.
I know I need mexican permits for both the kayak and boat. I know enough to get driving insurance at the border. Can anyone tell me the best way to
get the boat permits as well as fishing licenses for the three of us. Can I have them mailed to me within three weeks or do i need to go down to San
Diego to get them?
Also can any old school verteranos suggest the best way for a first time gringo, with wife and daughter, to have a fun, safe fishing trip? As a side
note, we will be staying in hotels and not camping. I will need to protect my gear, boat, motor, etc. while the truck is parked overnight. Open to
any and all suggestions.
Lastly, I have an acre of land right off the beach in Las Arenas (between muertos and La Ventana/El Sargento) that I would like to develop. Right now
it is nothing more then cleared raw land. No paved roads,water, or power. Does anyone know who can help me with pouring a large concrete pad (120
X40) and building a cinder block garage (50 X40). ,with a viewing deck on top, and a palapa area? I am on somewhat of a budget but also realistic as
to the costs of such a project.
I have heard stories of contractor rip offs and jobs being walked away from as a bribe for more money. Looking to get started this summer. Once the
project is built I will let any RESPECTABLE baja nomad member stay at my property for free, if they can water the plants and check up on my
trailer/quads, etc...It's beautiful property, if you want e mail me for pics.

1-800-727-2252 They can handle your Tourist permits and your boat permits. and your car insurance at a discounted price. They say if your going for 2
weeks you can buy a year round policy for just about the same price. Ask them which is better for you I think you will have to pay $39.00 to join the
club but it is well worth it. I've been a member for years. Tell them Keri from Pyramid Resort sent you. You might stop at my friend Gail's Hotel
Quinta San Francisco it's only $40.00 a night . She is catty-corner across the street from the Marina right on the malecon.Enjoy your trip. k

Agreed... Discover Baja Travel Club... It is very near I-5, exit Clairmont (opposite Mission Bay) and go east, up the hill to a shopping plaza on the
right... next to a Blockbuster Video store.
They have all the Baja books and maps you may want to grab as well!

I would look at Iguana Inn first in Loreto as they have off street parking and Gail is right on the malecon and without off street parking, I believe.
I would not park a loaded vehicle on the malecon in Loreto.
There is another travel club http://www.vagabundosdelmar.com who will perform the same services and many hotels give a discount to members of this club. Was never a member of
Discover, so dont know if they have the same arrangement. But the discount from Vags comes in handy.

I'd put the bikes and boat motor in the pick-up bed if possible. I wouldn't put anything but soft or light items in the boat. Lot's of bumps in Baja !
For security, one chain does the bikes, one chain ties the boat to the trailer, a lock on the motor's transom screws and a hitch lock completes the
package.
When you get to El Sargento, look up Mike Donahoe.
He is an Oregonian doing construction management for gringos in the area.
Also, check in with the people at La Ventana Windsurf or Casa Verde in La Ventana. They are owned by gringos and have both done new construction
lately.
Where are you planning to stay near Los Muertos ? In La Ventana ?
I'd check out Casa Verde for a clean, new, reasonable B&B.

my only sugestions are dont get in a hurry and be there when anything is being built at least the first time and preferbaly every time
as your headed down baja i look at all the broken dreams (started project) unfinished and my past experences to get things done
be there if anyway posable

Thank you all for the responses to my questions. I have hundreds more and will be asking all of you for any information you can share in the future.
Jerry hit on a good point about broken dreams in Baja. I will take things a little slower and try and get as much info as i can before comitting to
building my vacation pad down in the Las Arenas area. I think you can all recognize and relate to the "Baja fever" which has gotten a hold of me.
Just think only 20 more years until retirement!!!
Again thanks to all and I will be posting ignorant naive questions in the future.
