It appears there are two ways to get there.

You could take Hwy 111 or Hwy 86 to the the 78 east. At Blythe, east on tinterstate 10 to Hwy 95, then north on 95 to Las Vegas.

or take Hwy 86 north to Interstate 10 at Indio. West/north on the 10 to the 215 in Riverside then follow the 215/15 north into Las Vegas

When I had to work in Vegas a while back I chose to go east from Calexico on the 8, then headed north (left) on the Blythe/Ogilby Road to get to the 78. Head north until Blythe and head east on the 10 for a few miles and continue north to Vegas on the 95.

For me it was a good route. The scenery was good, traffic was pretty light (however, be careful of oncoming traffic passing), and it seemed to go as quickly as I could expect. It's pretty much a direct route.
