Taking used clothes into Baja for Mama Espinoza's Orphanage

Can anyone tell me if I can take a couple of boxes of used clothes across the border for Mama Espinoza's Orphanage? Are there any rules against it?

As far as I know , they do not let used clothing across the border. if you get the green light no problem but if you get the red light and they ask you about the clothing , you can say is clean laundry and it's ok.for some reason's the think that people that take used clothing they do it for bussines purposes.by the way it's this the building(orphanage) in the back of the museum?

We like to take any donation clothing and just mix it in with our clothing in our duffle bags---fewer questions.

We were honest once and said we had boxes of clothing for an orphanage in Honduras, and lost the clothing----so now, it is just a part of our clothing.

Good Luck

Dear Elinvesti8

We took some things to an Orphanage in Maneadero . I was concerned at the time . The people at el reino de los Ninos (Orpanage) advised us to put things in suit cases so it looked like our personal belongings . We have come over with lots of stuff , the last three or four times with no problems . I hope this is helpful and thanks for helping the kids . Stuffed animals are a big hit with the kids!

I don't know the exact location of the orphanage Bajacat. This is my first time down to Mama Espinoza's in 40 years.

ELINVESTI8,
We just brought items into the restaurant/store and they took them from there. We also disguised clothing as luggage as suggested above.

I look forward to reading about your return to El Rosario. Have a safe trip.

How did you hear about an orphanage in El Rosario and that one is run by Mama or Mama's family?

I only ask because I have not seen one in my many recent trips and vacations in El Rosario... In fact, I heard from a local that none exists...?

There is one in Colonia V. Guerrero we have taken clothes to...

If there is one in El Rosario, I would like to help out as well... Thanks!

I have no idea how long those restrictions on used clothing have been in effect, but about 6 years ago, when my father in law passed away, we brought 3 "HUGE" duffelbags with his clothing and footwear on Aero California via Southwest from Sacramento ( before new weight and size restrictions) to Loreto. The Aduana in Loreto wouldn't let us take them from the airport, but had the church pick them up for distribution the following day. Only had to answer a few questions :?:
Strange how rules keep changing :no:

Hi everyone thank you for your responses. Here are two websites showing pictures about Mama Espinoza's place and her Alberque Para Ninos Fundacion Mama Espinoza. I hope you can all bring any items you think kids could use. I did not know about her Alberque Para ninos until I recently discoved she was still alive and on the internet. That is when I started contacting Mama Espinoza's daughter Roly in El Rosario so I could come down and visit. Back 40 years ago they hardly had electricity. Now they have a motel, La Cabana a museum telephone and they even have the internet. That is how I first made contact was through their internet e-mail address. Grover put a video on one of the threads showing a man giving the kids bicycles. Anyway Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

Here is an idea:
Since it is not legal to bring used clothes into México, why don't you, instead of bringing boxes with used clothes, pack them in old suitcases and that way if you are asked about them at the border you could say they are your personal items. :light:

Well, on our last trip back to Bahia Asuncion we both had several bike riding outfits in our personal bags. It is amazing how many different sizes we each can wear. :tumble::tumble:

Grover started a thread titled "Translation Help." You will find several websites about Mama Espinoza with stories and pictures of her Alberque de Ninos, and many other stories about her. Mama Espinoza is quite a Baja California Icon.
