WE drove down Tuesday leavinf from SD at 10 and arrived at Catavina just as it turned dark at 5. The next day we were at the beach in Ounta Chivato
by noon. We are goig to leave tomorrow or the next day and return to SD, but it's an easy and interesting trip. So beautiful down here at the
moment. The water is clear and not too cold. The winds are very moderate. Punta Civato is great camping but The bay of concepcion is always more
protected but could be more crowded over the holiday.

My friend Gary just told me that the camp beach in Punta Chivato is no longer being maintained. No water, showers, trash pick up or fees to pay. I
suspect that will change as more people come in. We have a new store/restaurant. It's clean and the meals are good.

Thanks for the report, looks like we'll be doing the exact same thing later this month. I think we've chosen to head to Mulege instead of the original
Bahia de Los Angeles plan.
Any recs on a place to stay/camp in Catavina? What time did you leave in the morning to arrive at Mulege by noon?

Well, sure, Rancho Santa Ines. It's less than a mile off the pavement on it's own crude paved road. The turnoff is just a few hundred yards past the
hotel in Catavina as you head south.
Nice large flat lot with trees and water. Much less road noise and light pollution for star gazing.
Leave at first light and haul ass.

Oscar and Matilda are the hosts at Rancho Santa Ynez, great people.
You won't be sorry you stopped there. Safe and comfortable camping, Matilda cooks up a great meal, coffee in the morning before you take off. There is
also an American couple who live near by, Ralph and Pat who are wonderful company as well.

Bruce,
It may be too cold to camp and if you are looking for cheap bunks with hot showers there is a pink hotel on the west side of the road. Minimalist but
cheap. $25 maybe?? You'd have to leave pretty dang early to get to Mulege by noon. Have a great trip.

Bruce,
It's about 325 mi. from Catavina to Mulege. I would guess that it will take you 7 hrs.
You would have to leave at 5am to make it to Mulege by noon. It will be dark at that time, so you'd have to be very careful to watch out for cows on
the highway.

that's my time from catavina to mulege
7 hours
leave at 5am mulege by noon
but here's the rub
you need to leave by 4am because time changes at guerrero negro and noon is an hour earlier in mulege

Thanks everyone for the advice! Luckily we don't *have* to be there by noon, so we can sleep a little later.
How cold will it be in Catavina? Sounds like we'll decide whether to do camping or hotel depending on how we feel....but we all have warm sleeping
bags so cold nights will be OK.

The saturday morning after Thanksgiving it was 40 degrees when we left Catavina at 7:30 am.
I'd call it a 2 dog night.
