San Ysidro motel
Looking for a motel in San Ysidro for our layover before crossing southbound. Any suggestions. Will be pulling a small trailer with a pick-up loaded
with kayaks and camping gear so security would be an issue. Previously we have stayed at the motel 6 and it's always worked out but was wondering if
the Nomads had any other suggestions. Will be crossing Sunday 23rd at O'dark thirty. Look for maroon Dakota with two kayaks and small trailer.

Chula Vista has a Vagabond Motel, "E" and Broadway. Tell them you want the Baja discount. Right west on E is a Motel 6. Don't stay there even if
it's free.

To each his own.
The Motel 6 on 'E' street has plenty of secure parking! Nice and close to a couple of great restaurants and provide very nice recently redone rooms
at a reasonable cost.
Their phone number is (619) 422-4200 for reservations.

Yeah...I guess so. I forgot about the McDonalds next door. It's been a few years since I made the mistake of staying there and, as you mention,
there may have been some changes. When I went in the office to register, there was a Harley on the carpet next to the desk and the woman in charge
had green chevrons painted above her eyes. That was fine but, until 3:30 AM the managers and other speed freak guests had a pool party....a very
loud pool party. I'd have picked up my stuff and left but the c-ckroaches wouldn't let go of it till the sun came up.
I should have known and would have had I looked at the parking lot before registering. It was half full of derilect vehicles. It was a welfare motel
at the time. The county puts up down and out clients in these places. There are more on Broadway, most with names that reflect an Oriental
influence.
Glad to hear they cleaned up the place.

Spent the extra $20 per person and stay in Mission Valley, 20 minutes from the border, no turf wars, no hourly hotel rates. Secure lots.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

Mission Valley is a good choice. I don't think there are any bad places there.

La Quinta at the 805 and Bonita Road. Safe, cozy and a free breakfast. Then cross at Otay and take Blvd 2000 to the toll road in Popotla.

I've always stayed at the one right by the McDonald's. I've never had a problem with it. The first time I stayed in SY, I stayed at the place that is
a part of the 24 Hour Mexican Insurance place on the other side of I-5. We were the only non full-time tenants there. The management and the other
tenants treated us really nice as if they have have never had a tourist stay there before. It was quite an experience. Some gang-banger types watched
after my van as they stayed up tweaking all night. They were like, "Yeah man, don't worry, we got your back, and we're watching your ride too." They
refused any money for it.

Do NOT stay at the Palomar Inn at I-5 and Palomar unless you l love to talk about the tri-lateral commision and how the Masons killed JFK. The night
mgr is a complete wack job. Just MHO.

Hey, I was Assistant magr at that place then, You are right, It was terriable and the guest were scary. I eventually left over a spat with a training
Manager. Motel 6 is the worst. The Harly Rider MGR would leave for weeks at a time and I would have to live there till he got back, He got a salery
while I made a little more than $7 an hour for working 24 hour shifts and living in one of the rooms...... I always took my own bed sheets. Knowing
what I knew, they couldnt pay me enough to sleep on one of those beds. Although I have to say he is no longer there and I haven't been back so who
knows. They may have cleaned it up.
Following FDT wherever the Baja wind takes him.... That is, if its going in the same direction I am.
