Mexican Insurance
I'm heading down to Baja at the end of January and was wondering what the best insurance company to use would be?
I was reading some previous posts and Lewis & Lewis Insurance and Baja Bound were mentioned and would like to know people's thoughts or if they
had other agencies to reccomend.
This is my first time posting and first time heading down to Baja so excuse my ignorance on the topic! I have lots of questions!
Thanks.

Just today I bought insurance through Lewis & Lewis. I did the whole thing online, and it only took me 10 minutes to set up a yearlong liability
policy for my van for $128.00 U.S.

I recommend Bajabound (see top of this page). they are a sponsor of Baja Nomads and a supporter of Nomads projects. I will support them and urge you
to support them also.

Just to add another insurer to the mix,, we use Discover Baja for our Truck insurance and home insurance for Baja. Check the website (add .com)
Been with them since they opened up for business, plus they're office just happens to be about two miles from my home in Mission Bay.
Search this subject and you'll find lots of info.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

I had my car stolen in TJ in 2005 and at the time I was insured with Qualitas through Oscar Padilla. They were great. Less than an hour after
reporting the vehicle stolen one of their agents was at my house to fill out the claim paperwork. The car was never recovered and the company actually
paid me about 1k more than the true value of the car. I would use them again.
They even let me transfer the remaining 5 months left on my old policy to another car.

Don't forget to look into SKyMed Air Evacuation..it is a policy you should have whether you spend 2 weeks (traditional policy) or the whole year (NATO
Policy) in Baja. Since I became a membership rep in Baja I have learned of many air evacuations that have taken place here, thousands, and I mean
thousands of dollars if you don't have a policy. SkyMed is a geat, proven company. I recommed it!!! Very inexpensive too. $180.00 single $360.00
family....belong to Vags. or some other travel club...$144.00 single $288.00 family.....you just shouldn't leave home without it! For more info e-mail
me at skymedloreto@gmail.com...go to wwwskymed.com/loreto for appliacation online....travel Club members must e-mail me with your number first to get those prices as they are not
online....Happy travelling....

That reference to Qualitas is right on!
Lewis and Lewis is underwriting them and in over ten years with two claims have never had a moments grief from them. They have been quick, accurate
and business-like.
You will find dozens of others who also recommend Lewis & Lewis and there is definitely a reason!!!

This is about the only bad experience I can ever remember anyone having with Qualitas and/or Lewis and Lewis.
Scroll down to the bottom of page 5 if it doesnt take you there.

But they DID eventually pay.

I just signed an annual policy through mapfre tepayac mexican insurance. I decided to use them because you can take your car to have it estimated and
repaired in the US. They were also pretty inexpensive as well at ~300 for annual full coverage.

I have been using Lewis&Lewis for over 20 Years. Last year was my first claim. A Mexican ran into my enclosed utility trailer. It was a write off
but Qualitas decided to try and repair it. It took them 20 days in Ensenada and the result was substandard and shody. After returning home I had to
get the trailer repaired properly, some of their repairs were actually illegal (such as welding a damaged hitch, it should have been replaced). In the
end I could have bought a new trailer if you added together the money Qualitas paid out and what it cost me out of my own pocket.
IMO Lewis & Lewis are good and helpful but Qualitas is not. Unfortunately Lewis & Lewis are brokers for Qualitas.

Check out the thread re the Flood at the La Paz Mini Storage. Qualitas never met one deadline they set, never returned phone calls except for the
first one to report our claim, and Lewis and Lewis were ineffectual in helping us with the problems. I am not using them again.

oscar padilla
well i go thru oscar padilla in san diego (online) and i had my car stolen and recovered (kinda, view the thread). if it hadnt been for the qualitas
adjuster "Ricardo Hernandez" in Constitution i would have given up on the whole deal. he went way beyond of what was required of him and i owe him
"BIG TIME" for his efforts in the return of my car. but then again im just speaking thru my experience.
