We are coming down the 26th and was wondering what the best route to take to get to San Felipe. We will be coming from norcal. Are tourist cards
available at all the border crossings? Thanks,Eric

From San Diego?
Go I-8 east to 98 to Calexico and cross into Mexicali.
From L.A., I think some like to go out past San Bernadino, Indio and down along the Salton Sea to Calexico on Hwy. 111.
This is the fastest way to San Felipe... Only Friday evening is slow getting into Mexico.
The border and customs (INM) is open 24/7 there (for tourist cards if you are going for more than 3 days or south of San Felipe. Up to 7 days is
FREE... longer is about US$20 pp

There are many alternative routes, depending on time of day and day of week. Search these forums for "San Felipe". If you are staying past the 1st,
make sure you have your Passports and DO NOT drive at night. Have fun!

How will the authorities know if we are down there for more than 3 days? Is there a free 7 day tourist card?

It's OK to not have a visa UNLESS you are in an accident.
Are you willing to risk it?

1) Well that may be something you can get away with if you don't go south of the border zone...
2) Tell the IMN officer you are going fo 7 days or less and want the free tourist card.

Passports still not required by land from Mexico after January 1st. until they decide otherwise.
I.D. and Birth Certificate only required for crossing back into the U.S.
You may want to check out sanfelipe.com.mx for further information.
If you must drive at night drive very very fast!
Haven't had a bad trip yet....
