Los Planes to El Cardonal passage
Hello All,
Heading down in May with my sister, traveling by rental Jeep, and wondering if it is possible to travel from San Juan de Los Planes to El Cardonal.
Any info on this road/passage would be appreciated.

I do not know the current condition(s) - as the last time I was on that road was probably 10 years ago (so hopefully there'll be more current info for
you). But if I recall correctly at the time, it was slow and narrow in places, but certainly passable in my 4wd Toyota pickup.

Thanks Doug for your reply!
I was there last year and had to turn around, our rental car made our trip very short on that passage, and we didn't make it to the Hide a way.....
Hoping to get there this year through that route.
91 more days to go.

We did it in a 4X4 van two years ago at Christmas and it was okay. It was in better shape than one year before.
This year we looked up the road but did not make the trip. The road that we could see looked okay.

As you were looking out the window at the narrow spot and across the creek, this is what you saw.

Earlier in the year they said it was impassable by moto but now people are reporting you can make it in a car or 4x4. I am interested in your
experience.

Just did it last week. Pretty good shape, we used 4WD for part of the trip, but not really necessary. Still green, some water in arroyo crossings.
No reason to not take this route this year.

Thanks for sharing everyone!
I'm trying to make my sisters trip a memorable one, she doesn't get away from NS very often and is so deserving for a get-away. I couldn't think of a
better jaunt, then to the Baja.
With only one trip under my belt, your knowledge helps me out big time.
Little does she know but we will be taking the passage to Cardonal, she will be very leary but is a very kind and adventurous soul. (AKA good travel
partner)
I am trying to convince my brother, who should be rolling in by motorbike from NS, the same time we fly in to Cabo, to follow us to Cardonal once he's
rested.
I won't show her the pics that were shared here, She will experience with fresh
eyes and so will I

Hey Larry,
Thanks for the heads up! He rode a 650 Enduro last year there, this year, he rides a KLR 650.
I was the one to do the research for his first trip, a Big Thanks to this site!!! He had a great trip but looking forward to new off road sites this
year.
We are from a very big close family and I had to let them know where he was going, you know what I mean, to set MOM's mind at ease.
Well, I fell in love with the site, and gave him advice and convinced my sister in law to go with me last year, and had the best experience on a
vacation ever.
I wasn't planning on going anywhere this year, everyone wants an all inclusive get away.
But, my bro has a place in Cabo for a week, and we are going to take advantage. But, we are not going to waste out time in Cabo, its a good home base,
but we have 10 days so, I would like to give my sis the best tour I can.

Mo..... I have made that trip many times in a VW Bug (rental) while fishing out of El Cardonal, but not in the last six years, or so. Talk your
brother into going along with you. He will enjoy it and it would be nice to have an escort.
