smoking ban

My two best friends are going to love this new law. Angel and Luka are not fond of smoke, especially in resturants. there is nothing worse than trying to chew their bones or tacos under the table in a smoke filled room!

Actually, I think you can import or smoke any cigarette that is between 10 and 15 years old.

An Expensive Habit

And I haven't smoked a cigarette in 40 years.

I always keep Marlboros around to hand out to the Campo workers (one of their favorite things) and last week I had to replenish my supply in San Felipe. 340.00 pesos for a carton. They aren't that much more at Walmart in the U.S. At this rate, I'll be bringing cigarettes INTO Baja.

That much for Mexican smokes? Things have changed a lot.

In your trips back and forth, Bill, don't you go anywhere near a duty free store?

Ricardo Romo is a wonderful host and a good friend to the LocosMocos crew. He makes the best Margarita in Baja, IMHO, with Mexican limes from his own orchard. Clean rooms, no frills, great matresses, food is hit and miss.

National smoke ban set to be enforced starting Thursday

A nationwide smoking ban requiring restaurants, bars and other public places to confine smokers to closed-in sections is set to into effect this Thursday, Congressman Ramírez Barba told Notimex in an interview on Saturday.

The ban prohibits lighting up at schools and offices and carries stiff fines of up to approximately 500,000 pesos. Commercial establishments that flout the law can be closed down after repeat offenses, and smokers can be jailed for up to 36 hours.

Signed into law May 30, the government was given 90 days to enforce the ban - a period which ends Aug. 28, Ramírez Barba said. The measure follows smoking ban that was slapped on Mexico City's bars and eateries in January, but is still less prohibitive than the capital's comprehensive ban. -NOTIMEX

Well, the grace period is up on Thursday. Has anyone seen any changes in their local restaurants and bars?

I think the world is run by C- students.

Not here in Mulegé, we know about it but the bar owners don't want to offend there best customers...

They introduced a smoking ban in enclosed spaces here in England last July.

Pubs and clubs are dropping like flies because people are staying away. It's sad.

Why on earth you can't have smoking bars and non smoking bars I will never know.

As a worker you can choose which one to work in and as a customer you can choose which one to drink in. It's not rocket science is it!?

I guess it's all about controlling the populus and been seen to be doing "the right thing".

The problem is it won't stop there, whats going to be banned next?

As you were.
