questions questions questions...

Hello

Any info on the following grey areas gratefully received please - thank you

1. I'll be driving a car into Mexico from LA in May - am i correct in thinking that the standard visa for tourists is 6 months ? (UK)

2. Do I need to organise anything paperwork wise other than car insurance before i arrive at the border? (i gather tourist cards/visas can be picked up at the border?)

3. I'm going to drive to La Cachora (todos santos) - im allowing 3 days - is that about right?

4. Are there any other things i should know, do or buy before i turn up !?

Finally, does anyone waterski dwn there?

Thx in advance

Adrian

1. You can request a six month visa at no extra charge. Remember to tell them otherwise it's up to them.

2. Valid US ID, Drivers LIc, and Passport or Birth Cert.

3. Yes. Stop one night in Sta. Rosalia, one night Loreto.

4. Get pesos promptly. Don't stop till Ensenada. Have mucho fun. Take yer time if the road seems intense to you. Eat fish tacos. Don't worry---- Be happy!

%. Yes, water sports are cool. Was skiing in November. Awesome fun but don't disturb the solace of certain other Gringos in Baja, many are there for..........uh................uh...............quiet time.

DON\'T SQUINT! Give yer eyes a break!

Dont freak out when you come upon a bunch of teenagers in uniform with automatic weapons.....these are checkpoints and there are 5 or 6 of them. Going south they seldom check much.

no fruits are allowed below Guerrero Negro. so ditch them before the border of BC and BCS.

DONT DRIVE AT NIGHT!

Bajajudy,

They checked us going south over spring break. Must have been for the holiday as we've never been checked going south before.

I am not sure whether I am understanding you correctly but if you are implying that you are from the UK your tourist visa may expire earlier than 6 months. I believe that they only issue 6-month visas to citizens from NAFTA countries. Check with Discover Baja (800.727.2252), they probably can tell you what the maximum time is for your specific situation.

We just drove down to Guerrero Negro last week and the checkpoint is just North of Guerrero Negro at the 28th Parrallel. They did ask for fruit and sprayed our car with some stinky substance which I assume was poison to kill any bichos from up North.
