Jesus Maria "La Casita"
La Casita

Located next to the Pemex in Jesus Maria

Huge menu, good prices, very friendly staff and excellent food.

We got two Torta Especials to go. They were monsters! They each came with a side of salsa and jalapenos, and lots of napkins for the road.

Unfortunately we've not been hearing good reviews for Carmelita's. We were told that she hasn't been there lately, her son has taken over. Tamales are
smaller and bones were left in the chicken. When we pulled up her place was empty. Her son was across the street, hanging out in the Tecate store. We
decided to try La Casita and are glad we did. We were also told that out of respect for Carmelita they do not offer tamales, but the cafe across the
street evidently does.

We didn't check it out, though.

You know - I had the same concerns re Carmelita's last month. I almost went to La Casita and after a couple of pretty ho-hum tamales I think I will
next time.

I had breakfast at La Casita last year with no complaints. Good service and good food. I basically had coffee and juevos rancheros and the bill was
about 65 or 70 pesos. I thought it a bit on the expensive side but would stop there again.

We tried Taqueria Paulina last year and it was "ok", but nothing special.
Paula's torta looks a whole lot better than whatever we had across the street.

I stopped at Carmilita's last spring.........she was there, I don't know what happened to her tamala's but, they were mostly masa. I did see La
Casita and the menu looked great. I will try them next time, too bad after years of the best in Baja, Carmilita's isn't anymore.

The first Carmalita's tamales I ate were from a crock pot in the trunk of her car, would have never tried one were it not for the insistence of my old
friend Mike George. We have always stopped there since but have to agree with the previous posts....they just aren't the same. Carmalita hasn't been
there the last few times through.....dt

Although we've stopped there each time, I havent seen Carmelita the last four times, over 18 months, the last time a couple of young (15 to 18 year
old) boys were there. "Where's Carmelita? " "En su casa" The tamales and burritos were O. K. but not like I remember from before.

Last year, we stopped at Carmelita's on the way south and had some tamales... Carmelia arrived after we got our food, so we had hugs and I gave her a
'got baja?' sticker (which I see is on her fridge in dtbushpilots photo just below MexRay's 'Baja Time' sticker)... The tamales were not the same as
when she made them years ago from her van.
On the way back north after visiting Shari and Juan at Asuncion, etc., we tried the new place 'La Casita' and it was very good with lot's to choose
from!
