Dry Ice in Ensenada

Anyone have specific information on where to purchase dry ice in Ensenada.

Taking frozen fish up north and it will be ready for more cold by the time I get to Ensenada.

Bajaguy, thanks. Note that I am specifically asking about 'Dry Ice'.

Do not want to use normal 'wet' ice.

I never have seen dry ice in Baja... am curious... How do the ice cream carts keep their helados frozen without it?

The suppliers being the people that sell the ice cream to the street vendors is verified by an Ice House in Ensenada.

Now to try and find out who sells the ice cream to the street vendors.

My saga continues, stay tuned!

Heh, I was at a Stater Bros in Ensenada a little while ago picking up some ice cream for a friend of mine and even they didn't have dry ice for my friend's ice cream.

None of the businesses that sell ice cream in a storefront will have it since they use freezers, you need to find the one that distributes to the little carts that sell on the streets. Around noon, after school any Ensenada nomad is sure to find one hanging out right outside the school. Or maybe an Ensenada Nomad can make some local calls.

You might want to check with the ice cream store which is right next to Taco Dons on the Malecon in Santa Rosalia, as he had some one day that came in on the ice cream truck.
I have kept fish for up to 4 days if it is frozen hard, wrap it up in a few blankets or sleeping bags, and it was still rockhard with the frost 4 days later.

As you drive north on the Reforma, before reaching Chapultepec, keep looking right for "Hielera Diamante." I believe they sell dry ice.

Watched 'Pride of the Yankees' last night with Alex, after which there wasn't a dry ice in the house.

I agree with Pescador. This is the easiest way to get it to the border and then if you still have a long drive from there I'm sure you can find what you need in San Diego. Personally I use crumpled newspaper inside my ice chest with the fish (frozen hard) then duct tape the chest closed. It will keep your fillets rock hard for several days. I've used this method several times even during the summer with the chest left in the camper shell..

Chula Vista

Smart & Final

Chula Vista, CA (619) 427-0202

Wayne, look on Smart and Final website for a location close to whereever for you on the way North. I have bought dry ice for years to transport ice creme to Juan y Juan's when heading South.

Last week I discovered that my local Torrance Store was out, but that they keep a reseve in the back. I just asked the stockers...cashiers didn't have a clue.

Eat more ice creme in Baja!

There's like 13 Smart & Final stores throughout the TJ, Ensenada and Mexicali area. They co-own with Calimax. Don't know, however, if they do the dry ice thing there.
