If you are using a satellite based internet system, be very careful watching TV thereon. It is just data, like an email or somesuch and will very
shortly use up the bandwidth you have been allocated.
Been there, done that!

If in fact it is a satellite based internet, and you are the only person sharing this persons system, AND you should exceed the amount of bandwidth
allocated to them, you will hear about it.
When you exceed this limit, you are throttled down to speeds less than dialup for 24 long, dreary, incommunicative, miserable hours!

Might Try FTA (Free to Air) Satellite
You might go online to a FTA site ( Sonicview.com) or an online FTA Forum that speaks to the FTA satellite systems. Just google FTA and go from
there. Basically, the FTA is the airspace between earth and the various satellites which is Free. In that airspace you can pick up signals from
various television networks. The equipment consists of a receiver and a satellite dish which cost anywhere from $150 and up. Since you are in the
airspace used by all television companies including cable you may also receive those stations (upward to 3000 worldwide). The equipment and use of
the equipment is legal. Picking up the paid cable/satellite sites (i.e. Directv and Dishnetwork) are questionable, but a side benefit. Read the info
on the websites. This is a great TV solution for anywhere and once the equipment is set up there are no more expenses. No monthly fees, just great
television viewing (for free).

We have Starband, and the penality of "dial up speeds or slower" is far longer if you exceed your quotas...
As an example following is a statement of useage taken from my Starband account a few minutes ago:
Bandwidth Usage
Current Download Usage Your current 7 day usage is 41.1 MB and the maximum threshold is 1.0 GB
Current Upload Usage Your current 7 day usage is 2.9 MB and the maximum threshold is 390.6 MB
Activity for last 7 days Click here to view your real-time bandwidth activity for the last 7 days.
Remaining Download Bandwidth You have 958.9 MB of bandwidth remaining for the current 7-day period.
Remaining Upload Bandwidth You have 387.8 MB of bandwidth remaining for the current 7-day period.
So if one particular day, or several days during the 7 day rolling period you exceed your bandwith allocation... you could wait as long as 7 days
before you are restored to a more typical speed... Starband has on some occasions been willing to restore the faster speed prior to the end of the 7
rolling day average, but I'm certain would not do so if excess bandwith useage were on a regular basis.

Errr, you didn't mention
the work to download and install regular updates to keep up with the satellite TV providers encryption changes. I know a number of people who finally
got tired of their satellite TV going out just before the big game and subscribed.
Also, it's not "questionable" whether or not it's legal to view subscription programming without paying for it. It's illegal under US and Canadian
laws.

with all the free TV and movies on the internet why not just get a laptop, a VGA cord and a nice 50" or bigger monitor , some 5.1 powered speakers and
enjoy watching hundreds of shows and wide variety programming?

Fine if you're on DSL. Per Losfrailes, it
won't work very long over satellite unless you have a really large FAP limit.

Reminds me of the time a few years back when I was with a friend who was "updating" his receiver at a vendor's North of Town (San Felipe). In walks
the San Felipe Police Chief with his driver. Asked the "vendor" what the police were doing there. He said the Chief had come to pick up his
"updated" receiver.
Of course, you never know, I guess. I "suppose" Interpol might break down the door at any time.
I worry about that whenever I see one of those warnings when burning a DVD.
They'll never take me alive.

i wonder if blockbuster will deliver to baja? yeah, right!
but my turn around time for a burnt dvd is less than 20 minutes. drop it of at the P.O. and get a new one in 2-3 days = 2-3 per week for
$12-$13/month.... gotta go re-up my blank dvd+r's.

but
I would like to politely point out that Starband may be an even better choice if moving data is what you are trying to do.
take the HN pro plan compared to the similar SB 1000 plan
HN gives you about 375MB in a 24 hour period and a fap free period in the evenings from 2AM to 6AM EST
SB gives you a 2GB limit in a 7 day rolling average. Their FAP free period is from midnight to 8 AM EST
given the above:
Starband, on the $69 a month plan (128 X 1024KBps plan, realistically you can count on average 80 X 600-700KBps, sometimes it will be the rated speeds
or more especially in the late evening early morning hours)
2 GB in a 7 day rolling average which means you can do large file downloads without running into a 375MB FAP wall if you want. The way the rolling
average works is everyday at midnight the total for the past 7 days is added up and divided by 7.
The evening Eastern Standard Time FAP free time is 8 hours starting at 12 midnight vs HN's 5 hours. You can pack a lot of data into those hours
especially because it is a lightly loaded time on the network and speeds are up. Easy to pull another 2 GB right there in one night
I think if you do the math you can squeeze more out of a starband connection than a similarly priced HN plan and the way you can do it is a bit more
flexible with the 7 day period than the HN 24 hour method.
So on HN about 11GB per month during fap time plus another 1GB per night during fap free period= potentially 30GB+11GB or 41GB per month.
On starband 8GB per month during fap time plus another 2 Gb per night during fap free period = potentially 60GB + 8GB or 68GB per month, about 40%
more
Also I like www.hulu.com for free TV.
