Border crossing T or T
I'll be driving down from N. Ca. is it worth the detour to cross at Tecate rather than Tijuana?

It is if you are planning on driving to Ensenada and south. You can get your tourist visa, pay for it and get it stamped all within 10 minutes.
Do a Nomad serch under Tecate, and you'll come up with several dozen hits.

Either a nice scenic drive from SD to Tecate and another nice scenic drive to Ensenada from there;
or,
the TJ zoo parade and traffic.
Your choice.
We opt for Tecate'.

I vote for TJ if you're crossing before 8:00am. Easy parking for FMT/bank and a straight shot to Ensenada. Also, bathrooms at every toll booth with
an ATM at the last one before Ensenada. I don't like all the windy roads into and out of Tecate. Not worth the hassle in my opinion unless you have
the extra time.

Going down we cross at Tijuana---early morning.
Coming back to the US, we cross at Tecate---would rather drive the extra miles and time than wait in line and we live a stones throw from the
Tijuana/San Ysidro crossing.
Last crossing at Tecate---drove up to the gate, waited 30 seconds while they processed the one car ahead of us. The Customs man smiled when we told
him where we lived and why we were in Tecate. He also said not to tell everyone because it makes his job easier.

Going northbound through Ensenada ...
Could you describe or have photos of the exit to hwy 3 to Tecate ?
Are there clear signs to the exit ?
Thanks,

it's just before the first toll and
just after the turnoff for the university
just stay in the slow lane and you wont miss it
sign says hwy 3 tecate
turn right at the mcdonalds in tecate and go east until you get to the left turn to the border
it's kinda of weird at that turn
you actually go past the crossing and then have to go back along the border
lots of cops around so watch your driving
if it's dark i'd use the toll road
pretty windy and lots of construction right now
you may get delayed
