Mexican FM-2 Visa expenses

Does anyone know how much an FM-2 costs per year, to initiate with a new book and annual renewal, and where that information is on-line? Thanks for your help, Nomads.

While the cost may be the same at most offices,

Many of the other requirements will probably be different.

It is always best to go to the office you will be useing and to ask them directly.

My FM3 renewal was 1,170 pesos, I am sure the FM2 is more.

When you look at the link note the charge for changing your status. The first year it is a big hit. I did it and the documentation here in the Manzanillo office was the same as FM-3, just higher fees. Hey but I am now on the path to citizenship, only 4 more years!

I just went through the FM2 process and received my Inmigrante status. These were the renewal costs (in pesos) stamped in my book:

2004: 2245
2005: 2245
2006: 2245
2007: 2537
2008: 3093

This year there was an additional 800 peso charged for the final processing.

I don't remember the initial cost in 2003, when I started but I believe it was a little more than the first renewal because the cost of the book was included. I am sure costs have risen but like I said, these were mine in San Felipe.

driving restrictions

Our FM3's expire in May, and I want to renew with an FM2. However, I've been told that a person with an FM2 can't drive a foreign plated vehicle, only a Mexican registered one. Does anyone know the rules on that?

I believe that it has to do with your vehicle..You can drive any vehicle but are supposed to have your own imported.:?::?::?:

You can not drive a foreign plated vehicle once you achieve Immigrado status which you apply for after holding your FM2 for 5 years.

Stanburn,
Are you sure ? I thought it was your own vehicle, which should have Mexican plates, but didn't think it applied to driving foreign plated cars, as long as you have permission.:?::?:

I can't cite the specific law, but a Mexican friend, retired from the government, expained it to me as Stanburn stated.

after you become "Inmigrado"

are you no longer allowed to drive a foreign plated car in Mexico?

this is true True...but...
there are special considerations for those people whom have had a foreign plated vehicle in Mexico for over 5 years and have arrived to the "Imigrado" stop.

It involves petitioning the Government.

Special rules for special folks? Seems like half the Mexicans in Ensenada drive California plated cars. Probably a higher percentage at the border crossing. Must be Mexico's mystery of the day.
