American woman fatally injured at La Ventana
Sad news........................a friend of a friend was fatally injured while kiteboarding at La Ventana this week. She was life flighted back to
the US, but the injuries were too severe and she was taken off life support today. The details coming back are limited and we're just wondering if
anyone happened to have any additional information.
Thanks

Hood River woman dies in kiteboarding accident
by Desiree Aflleje, The Oregonian

Facebook.com
Christina Bockius, 43, died Thursday morning.A Hood River woman has died from injuries she sustained in a kiteboarding accident on vacation near La
Ventana, Mexico.
Christina Bockius, 43, was treated in a La Paz hospital Tuesday after breaking her neck and was transported by air to OHSU where she died early
yesterday morning, her brother-in-law, Peter Hixson, said today.
"It was just a freak accident," he said. "We're just devastated."
She was not in the water when it happened, Hixson said, but was found on the sand with her kiteboard dragging her down the beach.
Bockius is survived by her husband, David Kelly Bockius, and two daughters, Sascha, 10, and Nina, 7.
An avid skier and windsurfer, Bockius spent 60 days or more a year kiteboarding after picking up the sport a few years ago, Hixson said, adding sports
were "her path."
Hixson said her talents also transferred into the art world as a jewelry maker and advocate for keeping the arts in schools.
"She would teach classes herself," he said. "She would spearhead gathering supplies and get guests to teach painting and pottery."
Friends and family held a candle light vigil for Bockius in Hood River on Wednesday night.
"There wasn't anyone more positive in life," he said. "She made people feel special."
I was told that the family decided to stop life support today and and then her husband went home to tell his daughters.
She was well-known and well-liked in the area and will be missed by many.

My condolences to the family and friends of this young woman.
My sense from the article, is that she contributed quite a bit to her community. Good people will come forward (and no doubt already have) and will
embrace and support her family and friends.
Sad, sad news.

wheres all the ignorant and stupid jokes about this. you know like when people get their heads cut off or shot in front of doorsteps? are there no
idiotic jokes cause she is an American? I hope to see no more "funnies" in here about people dying, no matter who they are or how they died.

As near as I can tell, this woman was an up-standing citizen. People don't "joke" when these types of people die, or are injured.
When dirtbags kill each other off (??), well, many of us really don't care that much------you know, "what goes around, comes around", and all that??
When you act like a gutter-rat, you can expect to die like a gutter-rat-----poetic justice.
There is a difference, from my perspective.

While there is some merit in what bajabif said, it is inappropriate here. Any statement, other than expressions of sorrow and condolences, is
inappropriate.Stop it!
To Christina's family and friends, I offer my heartfelt feelings of anguish. It is my sincere wish that healing comes quickly to you all.

Hey Biff!
I share your indignation. Just not here on this string. Put it on the strings where you see inappropriate jokes. OK? What we are both talking about, I
think, is being sensitive to the deaths of anyone.

John Donne in this case, "The death of any man diminishes us all." My condolences to the family and friends of this unfortunate lady who left life
way too early.

I'm very sorry to here about Christina. I don't think I knew her but wish her family and friends all my best.

Thank you some much. Everyone just called me Fisherman Larry as I was the only non-windsurfer fisherman their that time of year. I was there from late
April until June and then again October until mid November.
I have some great videos that Gary and I shot of each other fishing the area together in our tin boats. Ask him about the time I hooked in a 250lb
blue marlin 100 yards of the beach between Muertos and the lighthouse while we were slow trolling for roosters. We were in my 15 foot gregor. It came
with "rods length" of jumping in the back of the boat and was "about as big as the boat". Those are Gary's words as I fought and lost in the stern and
he was in the bow. We just finished catch footballs at Muertos. I used to call Gary Mister Atun.
