Migrating south for the winter
O.K. this is the third time I've tried to type this and I guess I keep hitting something and deleting everything I've written. Lets see if I can do
it right this time.
I have been reading this great site and have found it very humerous(especially the leaning lighthouse and the missing cat) and very informative.
I have made a couple of posts but my wife says it is very painfull watching me type ( I don't know how she can laugh while I am in so much pain)so I
don't post much. She is shopping now so I'm trying to ask some questions and get information.
We are leaving here on the 19th and after spending the holidays with our family in Redding were hooking on to our fifth wheel and heading to Los
Barriles for 3 months. This wet cold is more than us old folks can take and besides I'm sure there are fish that require my attention down there.
My wife just got home and she is trying to correct my errors,but I think there are to many and she has given up.
We are looking for some place to call home from mid Oct. to April. We really like LB but we want to look around at other locations. I don't
think we can afford to buy a house so we are thinking about a palapa on leased land or something similar. We want somewhere where it is relatively
warm and there are fish.
Any comments,suggestions or whatever any of you folks might have will be greatly appreciated. Keep up the great interaction, this site is great.
She would'nt let me send this untill she corrected it so if there are errors it's her fault.

Your typing is nothing that a couple of well placed commas wouldn't cure. Las Barriles is a great place to land. Things are a bit squirrelly in Baja.
I wouldn't think about buying anything right now. A palapa or a house rental is the way to go. Look up the people in the East Cape RV park. They are
friends. Maybe they have something for you. Look for Paul there.....Good guy! Tell them Tony sent you.

Here's a couple suggestions in northern parts of Baja Sur:
Asuncion on the Pacific. You will find good RVing, great fishing, but cooler temps and some wind in your months.
San Lucas Cove south of Santa Rosalia and north of Mulege. The spot has been popular since the road opened in 1973-74 because of
it's harbor and great fishing. It's a friendly RV park with good 'bait, yellowtail, cabrilla, and rockfish nearby at Tortuga and San Marcos islands.
Plenty of other fishermen camp there for the season.
Dolphin Cove south of San Lucas and San Bruno. Just an old favorite of mine. Lots of wildlife, fish, good sites, long road in from
pavement.
Mulege Bay area from Pta. Chivato Shell Beach south along shore..a few campsites here and there. Good fishing nearby off Sta. Inez
islands and rockpiles.
Conception Bay..undoubtably the best and most beachcamping options, boating here is superb, fishing is poor, but trailering boat 17
miles or so to Mulege ramps is productive for nearby hotspots.
San Sebastian-San Nicolas Off the pavement a few miles. Nice waterfront camping, but it's been a few years since I was there. No
recent details, other than good fishing nearby off points and Ille del Fonso island.
From Loreto south.....many places to explore...Agua Verde, East Cape areas, Mag Bay, but I am not up to date on
today's conditions, fishing, etc. I will leave those areas for local residents to advise you. I know that Mag Bay would have most all you
desire...warmer weather, good fishing, good camping.

Pulling a trailer might make it difficult for you to explore. Set up house in Los Barriles and then hop in the truck for multi-day expeditions,
overnighting in hotels or camping.
Winter weather is warmer on the east coast for a given latitude. For my tastes the Los Barriles area is tough to beat. I've stayed in the trailer park
on the beach somewhat north of town and think it's a great place.

Don't forget there is a new RV park in La Ribera with a pool, restaurant and bar. Very nice and not crowded right now. Great fishing out of the wind
near Pt. Arenas lighthouse -- tuna, dorado, sierra near Cabo Pulmo. Daytime temps here are in the high 70s, 60s at night and there are years we don't
really have a winter.

Make Playa Norte RV park your headquarters in Los Barriles. It's the only park right on the beach. William will set you up with a good spot.

thank you for the input. Our plan was to make LB our home port and make fact finding (sounds like a military operation) trips to investigate all the
sugestions. We have a RV spot reserved for the winter. What is the weather like( temp., wind and rain ) in Ansuncion this time of year. same
question for Mulege. What about la Ventana and Bahia de los Muertos? I have read a lot about mag bay and will definetly check that out. Well I've
got to go shovel snow now( we have got to get to Baja ).

We really like Mulege..this is our second year here and while it's a little cooler than points south, it also has a nice, community,warm, feel that is
a little harder to find down south with the miniclique stuff going on....WAY too many gringos for me in LB now and they have driven the prices SKY
HIGH...more like a mini cabo..sorry...i was there for awhile but then it just wasn't the mexico i was here for....i lived and loved la ribera for
years but now..with all the stuff...the fishing is just SO good down there so i think if i had my druthers, i would check out cabo pulmo, just south
of la ribera; no power, no water...but, everyone has adjusted and it's a real nice community, REALLY close to fab fishing..far enough away from cabo
for sanity and close enough for costco..check it out...there are, by the way, a couple of rv parks in CP that are right on the beach..cheap..gorgeous.

Hey there! I am in Bandon-By-The-Sea. It was 27 degrees here last night. I've had it. Going to Loreto for the rest of the winter. I too have a

Hola newbies and a hearty welcome...!! Best thing to do is check out all the spots...so come on over and visit...we have places to put your RV too if
ya dont like fancy parks but want your own lot. Weather in Asuncion is coolish in the winter but we are still swimming and in shorts. It can be warmer
on the pacific side than on the gulf in the mid baja area...it is warmer here than loreto in winter and lovely and pleasant in the summer. Our windy
months are march through june when it blows in the afternoons but mornings are nice. It all depends on your comfort zone and what you like in terms of
gringo community versus mexican village type scenarios.

Hola Diver from wet and snowy grants pass.
I-5 was closed just north of GP this morning but it reopened about 1400 hrs this afternoon. From what I can find out the sikyous are open but have
snow on road. I don't think chains are required. There is a 80% chance of snow saturday. We are headed south tomorow (it is supposed to be the
best day for travel) and hopefully will beat the next storm. Good luxk on your trip drive safe.

A road update I5 is closed between here and roseberg and chains are required in several spots in the siskiyous. Aall of this and I'm still headed
south today.
