San Diego to Tacate

Can anyone tell me what the road San Diego to Tacate is like? I will be towing a 35' fifth wheel, about how long will it take to drive from the Santee rv park to Tecate?Thank you for any information.

I would estimate at least one hour---It is probably not more that 35 miles, but the road from Highway 8, Campo Road, and the 94 are very curvy and you are towing.

I am assuming the Santee RV Park is in Santee?

Have fun

Unless you have a specific reason ( wine country ?) to take the Tecate-Ensenada route, I would advice to come south through San Ysidro. Lot easier traveling while towing, easier FMT aquiring and a lot easier drive down to Ensenada on the toll road. Going north Tecate makes sense, but not going south. And that's not counting the much harder drive getting to the Tecate border. Just my opinion, but I have done both seemingly a million times.

I think my photographic memory ran out of film

It is a 2 lane country road with a passing lane section or two... used by 18 wheelers all the time going to Tecate... As vandenberg says, and I agree it is silly to go to the top of the mountain just to come back to sea level again... if you are going south... unless you want to visit wineries. Southbound, cross at Otay and use Hwy. 201 (BLVD. 2000) to avoid most of TJ traffic or cross at San Ysidro and follow signs to 1-D, Playas de Tijuana for the toll road south.

Coming home is another story... then the Tecate detour is often worth the extra 35 miles or so.
