Repeaters

This is an Amateur Radio related question.

Hi guys :)

I was wondering if anyone knew whether there are any 2 metre and/or 70cm's repeaters in operation in the La Paz area? (assuming those bands are allowable in Mexico).

Your replies are appreciated!

Thanks

As you were.

I don't know anything about the 2m radio but I know the ranchers in this area use them. So I'd suspect that would be the case in La Paz too. Don't know their freq. though.

I asked this a while back, after finding this list on the internet. Note that the repeater listed for La Paz is the only one without a tone squelch. Anyway, I contacted a boater/radio ham in La Paz (Jack Swords) and he tested for that repeater and found it not to be operating.

We have an operating repeater over here in San Carlos, Sonora on marine VHF channel 85. No tone squelch or anything, just a duplex repeater. Mostly used for communications during fishing tournaments where tournament control can sit near the weigh-in station with an HT and talk to boats at sea. I believe they were able to talk to boats approximately 100 miles away during testing.

You might check with the radio repair shop on 5 de Feb between Abasolo and Topete. I think it's called La Paz Radio Communications.

You should check into getting a temporary license to operate while land based mobile in Mexico. The process is supposedly a little convoluted and there is a fee of $80. IIRC

A couple of links.

Years ago there were 2 mtr repeaters in La Paz, near Todos Santos, and above the Cabos. I just tried to kerchunk the La Paz repeater on 146.7 minus, but got no result. This repeater has no PL tone, but doesn't seem to be on the air. XE1X is the operator. There may be others, but unknown. Also have not heard 450 MHz stations. The VHF marine channels are the primary means of communication here in La Paz. I'll set the rig up to scan 2 mtrs and 450 MHz to see if anything comes up. Tijuana and Ensenada do have active 2 meter repeaters (we're talking Ham bands).

Thanks for that Jack.

Whats the licensing aspect of the Marine Band down there?

Or is it a case of anything goes? ;)

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't say anything goes, but even though those of us who are on boats may have a station license one never hears call letters as designated on the license. We all use boat names instead. Kinda like a big party line, lots of information and communication. Several channels are respected as they "belong" to immigration, aduana, port authorities, and the calling channel used for emergency and contact with Mexican authorities. One needs to be aware of these channels. Sure wouldn't want to interfere with those folks. I believe I posted these some time back and should be in the archives.

Oh, repeaters.

Shew! I thought someone had compiled a list of those who've told the same story more than once and I was afraid to look
