It is doable but rougher this year following the hurricane from last summer. We just had friends that did the road and there were numerous areas that were washed out and the locals have drug out some new areas in the washes that are rocky but passable. The goat ranches in the back country are serviced approximately weekly by a guy from Mulege who picks up the cheeses and exports them to Sinaloa.
Much of the route is different than it shows on the Baja Almanac since the washouts, but with some rudimentary spanish and a little luck it is easy to find the missions.

Hi --Just back from going from San Juanico to San Miguel (la Mision) and then up to Guadalupe and San Jose de Magdalena and out to Highway 1 between Santa Rosalia and Mulege. Road is passable in a 2 wheel drive with no obstructions. If you want go to page 5 of : http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=...
and it shows our track, which follows the Baja Almanac with some deviations.

The one that is hard to get -- but the Baja California Atlas 2007-- available at www.mexicomaps.com shows the roads fairly well. Paul
