stranded in el rosaro
so here we sit at bajacactus trying to find a control modual for our f 350.
the whole story will come later.
the short version is that we met nomad TW on the road and were rescued to bajacactus by he and his wife. he not only towed us off the road but ran my
family to bajacactus and then came back looking for me. what an awsome person and imagine that the one person that stops is a nomad !!
anyway, we are here and antonio may be able to help us get the part sent down.
if anyone is passing or heading this way from SD in the next day or 2 please let us know. my baja cell is616-163-9450 and we are at the bajacactus
with the truck and camper parked in their back lot.
very nice especially for my wife an kids to be in the arms of bajacactus and meeting many more nomads.
last night we met skipjack and son alex at mamas !!
we"ve already had one great nomad rescue and i bet nomads have something to do with the rest of our story.
seill trying to get to asuncion - maybe by monday or tuesday..

I can just see Pam and the kids curled up on a king size bed watching movies and taking nice hot showers in those fancy bathrooms with tile to die
for...geez, wish we were broke down too. Weather here in Asuncion got real grey and threatening this afternoon...may even get some rain so
Diver...good timing on the little truck adventure...some of my best times in baja were the result of breakdowns....enjoy the movie.
Pam could go see Kim who runs the fossil/gallery there..she could do some shopping...I bought a cool painting of hers and neat earrings...the best
part is that the proceeds go to her doggie shelter...say hi from me.

I'm waiting for the whole story. We left Bahia on the 2nd, passed through El Rosario at 10:20 am, making it to Punta Banda by 2:15. We didn't see
anyone on the side of the road broken down. Bad timing on our part I guess. We have an F350 too, so if we had the part it (diesel) would have been
yours.
I'm glad that you were rescued and hope that your part come quickly. If you think about it, it's a great way to start the year with a Nomad rescue and
hospitality!
PS. Dern wants to know what a control module is. Sounds like another spare part we need to start carrying around. It's not your cam position sensor
that went out, is it?

Better to be broke down in El Rosario than in the North West, I would take that vacation over the weather here.
These are truly the things that make memories, the locals will get you back on the road, it has never failed me, maybe a few day delay so enjoy it,
could be shoveling snow
Your paradise is still waiting for you, hope you get there soon.
Happy Travels...........

How did you determine that it was your power control module so quickly?
It is not the cam position sensor, correct?

Ira, sorry about your delay, but no better place than where you are. Today, Sunday, some friends are passing through Rosario enroute to my place.
They may be at the BajaCactus right now. You might ask for the Despards. Unfortunately, they will have left US too early to be of any help with a
parts purchase, but maybe..just maybe...Zeph has a spare module. He's an old Baja road vet. I know you have exhausted all the common cures..like
turning ignition key (without starting) to on-off, on-off, on-off to reset computer...right?
Here's a couple 'possibles'..
http://www.dieselbombers.com/diesel-distress-support-ticket/...
.
If you are stuck, I will help in any way I can.
I have guests coming manana from north and south, but can send my DieselDodge your way.
1. Tow your trailer to Asuncion for you. My rig is set up for Fiver and trailer hauling.
2. Tow the Ford to a taller. (The Dodge is used to towing Fords, so will be no problem.)
3. Some house guests will be northbound soon and could bring whatever part I can get in Mulege, Sta. Rosalia, Vizcaino, or GN.
4. If you have found a part between Coyote and Rosario, but can't get it soon, I will get it to you a.s.a.p.
5. mi casa es su casa...the water is sooo much warmer here in Coyote Bay. Got kayaks for the kids, plus we're having bonfires.
But, I know you would rather be waiting for that part in Asuncion, so just let me know. The Dodge can be towing the trailer to your lot in 6-7 hours
from here. Asuncion DOES stock Pacifico, no?
Have fun in Mama's (post food report?), say Hi to Kim at the fossile store for me, and hang loose. Not like the old days, is it?...now help is just a
click away.
.
.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

rent a car from someone in town and
drive to the border and get the parts you need
you are only about 5-6 hours away
the ford dealer is right there at the border
then have the guys in town repair the truck
if you moved today you could have the parts
in el rosario monday afternoon and
the truck repaired tuesday for travel wednesday
keep the family safe in el rosario
and do what need to be done
dont fail

Diver....
Woody mentioned Ford Dealer. If it will help, I can get the part from them tomorrow AM and send it south on the first bus to El Rosario. Let me know
if that will work.

NIce offer Pomp...you just want an excuse to come and eat burro and lobster...I know! Diver, we all know that "should I go or should I stay now"
feeling....I sure hope you are SURE it is that part that is the problem. This could take awhile...no rush though...looks like the tuna are in Abreojos
anyway...there will still be lots of yellowtail for ya....if Pam and the kids want to hop a bus, we will be in Vizcaino tomorrow and again wednesday
with a big car to take em all and can pick them up and settle them into a house.

so we are still here and yes we are enjoying another fe days at bajacactus.
at first I thoought it was a fuel problem and amazingly found the 2 filter set fror my truck in el rosario. fuel was dirty but not too bad.
the truck would start and run for a few minutes before stopping - after it stopped and with the key still on, I heard a buzzing noise.
I found a 1x1x1 cube in the fuse panel under the hood that was buzzing.
both my US mechanic and the local taller electrica think that the part is bad. it appears to be some kind of fuel control modual ??
I had hopes of getting the part yesterday through Antonio but we missed the boat with phone calls.
I received a wonderful call from Ferna offering to send the part and I may take him up on that tomorrow.
Another option is for me to take the bus this afternoon to TJ and return tomorrow with the part. The part should be available at any large auto part
store. the problem is how to describe it.
Something will work out manana !!!
I may sit outside the <Pemex looking for a Ņomad ride to TJ later today.
If/when we get the part, if the truck is still broke, we will have to look at ways to get the rig and trailer back to the US. Follow the continuing
saga tomorrow.
thanks to all for your offers and well wishes.
and sorry - I am getting used to this mexican computer with worn off keys.

in my experience, the ONLY way to get the right part is to take it out and bring it with you as a sample...good luck...TioMiguel says you guys can
stay in his casa here if you bus it down and he'll lend you his really cool Land Cruiser too.

yes roger et all, we ate at mamas yesterday when we met skipjack and alex.
the place was jammed and the wait was not too long considering the crowd.
enchiladas con queso, tacos de pescado and hamburgesa for the little man were all happily eaten in quick order - not exceptional but certainly plenty
good enough for our semi literate palettes.
