I agree with San Nicolas. I think they have a special discount now, as well. Casino in the building. A block from a good steakhouse. Very well maintained. Secure parking lot.

Las Rosas is my favorite but Punta Morro is right behind. Both on the ocean with incredible views and I think within the 5 mile range. BTW, Las Rosas is offering a great deal; pay for 2 nights and get the 3rd free!

I've always liked El Cid on the main drag.

Looks like my recommendations will mimic the others. I'm not totally confident that any of these would be considered "trendy" - nor guarantee clean socks after walking across their floors however. YMMV.

Villa Fontana and El Cid are across from each other on the tourist drag (Av. Lopez Mateos). The San Nicolas a few more blocks away. As mentioned the Las Rosas and Punta Morro are north of the tourist zone and along the water.

Anyone ever stayed at the Coral? http://www.hotelcoral.com/

Or Casa Natalie? http://www.casanatalie.com/
This one looks particularly nice!

Ensenada, The half way point heading to Loreto. We have wanted to stop and spend the night and enjoy the local for years, but we just never have stopped.. Tell this last December coming home, north bound. It was kind of an emergency stop we made. Potty break. Made the next light, for a u-turn and stop at the first potty place we came to.

La Corona dinner, on the right, west side. We had a great dinner and spent the night in the Corona hotel. No complaints. maybe a little pricey. $90.00..... but it will now be our stop for the night coming home

A clean inexpensive place is the Ensenada Inn on Gen. Sanguines Blvd just up from the navy base between the Costero and Hwy 1....will be on the left side.

Las Rosas- easy answer

Las Rosas may be a bit more pricey than the downtown places, but the setting is breathtaking, the ambience and cleanliness are tops, it is quiet compared to the hustle of downtown, and they keep a good eye on the parking lot.
Highly recommended for a couples away type weekend.

Coral is good, more oriented to the "action" and a good place for the family, lots going on...

but, hard to top Rosas.

I highly recommend the Villa Fontana. The rooms in the pool area are the nicest and most quiet since they are separate from the parking which is in the center of the most of the rooms.

The rooms are VERY nice, roomy and relatively affordable (around US$65 for a double), and the staff is first rate.

Located in the center of the tourist strip on Lopez Mateos.

What about the Bahia? I used to stay there when I couldn't find the front door out of the bar. Never had a complaint....me or the front desk.

Geez. Ensenada Inn is across from Las Palmas al Paraiso, which abuts the sewage treatment plant, which sometimes gets overloaded, and depending on wind direction....:o

Check the reviews on Tripadvisor.com, and then compare to what is posted here in the hotel section.

You never mentioned your price range, or your personal requirements.

Right on the tourist strip, in addition to Villa Fontana and Best Western El Cid, don't overlook Posada El Rey Sol.

I have stayed at the Coral Hotel several times over the last few years and it is excellent. It is far and away the best Hotel I have ever stayed at anywhere. It is fairly pricey ($120-$150) but you can usually bargain with the desk clerks if they are not busy. The food is very good and not too expensive and the swimming pools and hot tubs are great. The Marina and ocean views from the rooms are beautiful and the security around the Hotel and parking lot is primo. Sometimes they have live music (light jazz or soft rock) in the bar. They also have plenty of parking if you are towing a boat or trailer. The rooms are all suites with a separate bedroom and living room. The only drawback, other than the price, is the sign in the room warning you "Don't drink the water" but they give you plenty of bottled water. A discount is provided if you have a AAA card . I sure wish I was there instead of wet, cold northern Calif. Enjoy!!!

Sounds pretty considerate to me. No sign in the room could turn into a "drawback" of nasty proportions. Of course if one is touched with a dose of discomfort, it's best to look at the bright side that there's no sense in saving it.

What we like very much about the San Nicolas is that it is just a few blocks to walk into town... and QUIET at night because it's far enough away from the night noise, etc.
And, it's just a nice place - good food, bar, casino, etc.

Stayed here Monday night, after spending the weekend at Jardines in San Quintin.

Villa Fontana $80.00, or $784 pesos with a $216 peso deposit. USE PESOS, or you take a hit. Nice rooms. It was cold, and raining, so the heater in the room was a plus. Parking was tight, and the advice to stay on the 2nd floor in the pool area is right on...be careful the winding stairs are slippery when wet.

We also got a massage down the street at the Essence after checking out a few places. Becky had a facial, and half hour massage ($55 US-facial, $30 for a massage), and I had a 1 hour massage for $50 bucks. Margarita's been doing massages for 16 years. I'm definitely going to make this a regular stop after a week or two of fishing, before heading home. Don't know about El Cid across the street, but I like Villa Fontana, and see no need in checking it out.
